Tiffen 127mm Black Diffusion/fx 3 Filter

The Tiffen 127mm Black Diffusion/FX 3 Filter diffuses strong light entering the lens and produces a glowing effect. While the resulting image appears softer and ethereal, there is little loss of clarity or detail. This filter works by diffusing the light entering the lens with small aberrations; by spreading the light more evenly, a soft glow is created rather than the sharp, well-defined image when shooting without a filter. This filter has a 3 density, providing a moderate amount of softening.
Tiffen filters are made using ColorCore technology, a process that involves laminating the filter substrate between 2 pieces of optical glass, grinding flat to a tolerance of 1/10,000th of an inch, and then mounting to precision metal rings.

Q: 1. Does it have clock drive and works in the Southern hemisfere ?
A: It does have a clock drive, but I still haven't used that feature...I just find the planet I want and then use the controller to re-center the image...not really the best way to use the scope, but for me it works. One night I will take the manual out with me and figure out how to align by the stars and then the image will be centered all night in the scope...plus mine have Go To so once aligned you just push a button and thousands of items are available to see all centered in the view. As to whether it works in the southern hemisphere I don't know...maybe the Celestron website can help you out. All in all a great little scope for the money with very nice views of larger planets, star clusters and amazing views of moon...not to mention a great scope for birds, earth-bound images, etc...Jon W. on Jan 13, 2015
Q: 2. Do I need to polar align this?
A: No it is not necessary to polar align. However, it is a very useful tool.
Q: 3. Can this scope be slewed manually across the sky without losing goto settings?
A: Yes you can! You need to do the aligning setup every time you turn on the computer!!! (which sucks but i think its understandable) Once you start to track an object you can do corrections in every direction which does not effect your settings. Also you can manually slew in every direction without losing your goto setups since they are stored in the computer and if you have aligned correctly.
Q: 4. Can you link this to a computer and see live images on your computer screen?
A: Yes. You would need a suitable camera, adapter and software obviously, but thats true for any telescope. A planetary camera such as ZWO will directly fit into the telescope eyepiece holder without any adapters required. A DSLR camera will need a T-adapter and mount ring for the camera make and model to fit in place of the eyepiece. If your DSLR has live view capability you can see the view without a computer. In either case you should be able to view the stream on a computer tethered via a USB cable or wirelessly if your camera supports WiFi. Im assuming you are running a compatible live view software for the camera on your computer.
Q: 5. Does it come with the 12VDC plug adapter? If not will this work - Input: 120/240 VAC, 50/60 Hz Output: 12 VDC, 2A 2.1mm Coax plug
A: The Sky-Watcher Skymax 127 AZ-GTi 127mm f/12 GoTo Maksutov-Cassegrain Telescope BH #SKS21130 • MFR #S21130 does no come with any 12VDC plug adapter. According to the instructions Do not use an unregulated AC-to-DC adapter. When choosing an AC adapter, a switching power supply with 12V output voltage and minimum 750mA output current is recommended
Q: 6. Can a camera be attached to the eyepiece or does this mainly take photos through the app?
A: Yes, depending on the type of camera it can be mounted to the eyepiece with the proper adapters.
Q: 7. Will a Cell phone hook up to it for pictures?
A: Yes, one can connect a smartphone to the Celestron NexStar 127SLT 127mm f/12 Maksutov-Cassegrain GoTo Telescope with an adapter. A very good option would be the Celestron NexYZ DX 3-Axis Smartphone Digiscoping Kit, BH #CENEXYZDXK (https://bhpho.to/3EHROPn).
Q: 8. Are any accessories required for it to operate?
A: The only required item to operate the Celestron NexStar 127SLT 127mm f/12 Maksutov-Cassegrain GoTo Telescope is a power source such as 8 AA batteries, an AC adapter: https://bhpho.to/3w8jsA6 or a cigarette lighter adapter cord: https://bhpho.to/3IVtGvt
Q: 9. Can this telescope be used with GPS Navigation such as Celestrol SkyQ Link II ?
A: Yes it can. The Celestron SkyQ Link II will be compatible with this scope.
Q: 10. Does this telescope have large asteroids (Ceres, Vesta etc.) in it's database?
A: No, asteroids are not featured in the NexStar hand controllers database; however, you can manually enter in an asteroid's RA and DEC coordinates to command the telescope to slew to an asteroid. You can also add the SkyPortal WiFi Module and using the free planetarium app, SkyPortal, command the telescope slew to asteroids in its database. Sincerely, Garrett at Celestron
