Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. How many hours of recording time do you get on a single 9v battery?

A: Ive had it continuously running for 3 hours and on / off for a month and the battery was still good.It shuts down automatically too, which I like

Q: 2. The mount on this mic has broken. (the one that slides into the camera on the top) Where can I find other mounts that attach to the bottom of this mic? TIA

A: Unfortunately, the mount for the VieoMic is not sold separately but can be obtained directly from the manufacturer- Rode Microphones. You may reach them at (562) 364 7400; Mon-Fri, 8:30am - 5pm (PST).

Q: 3. Will this plug right into the Zoom F2 ?

A: No, the Stereo VideoMic Pro will not plug right in, but you can use adapters to make it work. Since the input on the F2 has a locking connector and the mic has a non-locking connector, the plug won't connect securely. To make it work, you can use the Sennheiser CL1 cable (B&H # SECL1) which has a locking 3.5mm TRS connector on one side and a standard (non-locking) 3.5mm TRS connector on the other side. Use the CL1 combined with a female coupler like the Hosa Technology GMM303 3.5mm Female Stereo Mini to 3.5mm Female Stereo Mini Adapter (B&H # HOASMFSMF) to join the mic's cable with the CL1. That should do the job.

Q: 4. how would i mount this to a 1/4 20 mount?

A: To mount the Rode VideoMic Pro to a 1/4 -20 threading requires a reducer bushing.

Q: 5. Would this work for recording dialogue between two people in a quiet room from about 10 ft away? And is this compatible with Nikon3200?

A: The Rode VideoMic Pro is compatible with the D3200 and similar cameras that feature an 1/8 mic input jack. Average range for pickup would be 2-5 feet. For capturing audio at a distance of 10 feet clearly would require a significantly longer microphone and not an optimal recording scenario. It would be recommended to use a mic off camera or lavalier mics.

Q: 6. Can the hot shoe be removed and what thread is used for attachment?

A: It's a cold shoe and it cannot be removed. The thread inside is a standard 3/8".

Q: 7. How well does this cope with wind?

A: Add a Deadcat sleeve and also has a filter setting on back switch for outdoors for noisy wind.

Q: 8. How do you attach the mic to the boom pole? Boom pole is a screw thread and mic uses a hot shoe.

A: Just turn the mic upside down so you are looking at the bottom of the shoe. You will see a hole in under side of the shoe. The threaded stud at the end of the boom pole will screw right into the shoe. They are all 3/8 threads.

Q: 9. Does the bottom have a 1/4 screw hole so I could mount to a tripod?

A: specs read: has Camera shoe mount with 3/8 thread for easy boom-pole mounting so not a 1/4 screw hole. I checked mine and it is indeed 3/8 and larger than typical tripod mount. Perhaps you can find an adapter for it that B&H has. Ask the staff.

Q: 10. Does the high pass filter work effectively to reduce the impact of DSLR lens motor noise? I tried several micro phones which do not have high pass filter, but those microphones pick up the mechanical noise of DSLR lens motor. I'm looking for the microphone which can reduce the impact of the noise.

A: The high pass filter may help with this issue. it may attenuate it, but may or may not totally eliminate it. The best solution is to use the mic off camera with a bracket.
