Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Is vivid light magenta really discontinued?

A: The Epson T850600 UltraChrome HD Vivid Light Magenta Ink Cartridge (80 ml), B&H #EPT850UCVLM, is discontinued. It has been replaced by Epson T850 UltraChrome Vivid Light Magenta Ink Cartridge for P800 (80ml), B&H # EPT85060N.

Q: 2. Is this ink waterproof? Archival for art purposes?

A: The Epson T800200 UltraChrome PRO Cyan Ink Cartridge (700mL) is pigment-based, this ink is suitable for presentation and archival applications, ensuring print longevity of up to 200 years in color with suitable media.

Q: 3. Will this work in the Stylus Pro 3880?

A: No, The following ink cartridge is only compatible with the Epson P800

Q: 4. What is the page yield for these cartridges and for what size page? I realize page yields are approximate. 80ml sounds good, but for $55 apiece I'd like to know how far that goes.

A: I ran (150) sheets of 8.5 x 11 inch premium glossy paper with full ink coverage and full bleed. The cartridge is showing half full. When running that number of prints, I tend to use light black and vivid light magenta and light cyan at a greater pace, running those inks down to about 25% with each run. Your mileage may vary.

Q: 5. Approximately how many 8x10 prints can I get out of these ink cartridges?

A: There is no published spec on this and each print can use a different amount of ink colors. In general, it will use about 1.25 ml of ink per square foot. It uses nine individual ink tanks, each of which holds 80 ml. My estimate would be around 640 8x10's. Also Ink is Used during switching the black inks. Matte to Photo Black Approx 4.6mlPhoto to Matte Black Approx 1.6ml

Q: 6. This sounds dumb but I have heard that B&W printing uses some color inks in the mix. What inks should I keep in stock for B&W printing besides the obvious 4 blacks?

A: I would recommend to keep all 9 ink cartridges in stock. Just to be safe. Depending on the printer model, some printers will not print if a cartridge is empty.

Q: 7. I own an Epson Stylus Pro 4880, which has been working well since I bought it approximately 5 years ago. I am considering purchasing a new printer, and am considering the Epson p800. I also looked over the Epson 4900, which hasn't received very good reviews. I like the ability to print 17 x20, which both printers can do, and the print resolution is advertised as being the same on both models. I guess my question is why would I buy the more expensive 4900? What advantage does the 4900 offer that the P800 lacks?

A: Congratulations on making the 4880 work for you; I never could, but mine was used, and I never knew if it was really working correctly or not. But my P800 has worked better than I expected.I previously had a Chinese version of the 3880, which suited me well, but the P800 with the roll-paper feature is better for me and what I do. It's easier to set up and use than the 4880. Can't speak for the 4900.

Q: 8. I own a epson 3880 and plan to buy a p800 are the inl cartridges compatible between both printers?

A: The ink cartridges are NOT, repeat, NOT compatible. Do not under any circumstances try to use the 3880 cartridges in the p800. You will ruin the p800. I also bought a p800 to replace my 3880 and find that the p800 has better blacks, givers better prints, and so far, is less prone to having the ink nozzles clog than the 3880.

Q: 9. Will this cartridge work in the Epson SureColor P600 printer?

A: The Epson T850600 does not work with SureColor P600 printers, only the P800. For the P600 you would need the T760 cartridges. Vivid Light Magenta - B&H # EPT760UCMAG.

Q: 10. Can the ink expire in the printer before a replacement is needed?

A: Technically, it is my understanding that you should not used expired inks. However, I have had some inks that had expired and I used them until they ran out. I would not start with expired inks however, it is not the best thing for the printer, clogging etc. The inks have a mind of their own.

As someone who has been making prints from the days of C-prints and Cibachrome, I am continually amazed at the quality of the prints that come out of the P600. The Epson inks produce brilliant, permanent colors.
