Q: 1. Can the Vortex 20-60x 85 scope be used to view the moon with no filter? If not what filter is needed?

A: You can use this Scope for Celestial Viewing. Absolutely you can use this to look at the Moon with. Unfortunately we do not carry a Moon Filter compatible with this Scope. However I think you will be able to use this without a Filter.

Q: 2. I have a canon T3i. Can I take clear pictures through this scope? What is the B&H part number to attach the T3i?

A: All you would need to mount your Canon T3i onto this Spotting Scope is a T-Mount Adapter. You could do the Vello Lens Mount Adapter- T-Mount Lens to Canon EOS Camera. What you will do is peel the eyecup part of the scope off, and the T-Adapter Ring will thread onto the top of the Eyepiece where the Eyecup was. Then you can mount your camera onto that ring. Q: 3. Is there an opening on the bottom so that the scope can be attached to a tripod or window mount without removing the case?

A: Yes there is.

Q: 4. Is this the version with an Arca-Swiss foot? Not clear on BH or MFR site.

A: The Vortex Viper HD 20-60x85 Spotting Scope (Angled Viewing) has an integrated Arca-type foot to mount directly to Arca-type tripods. No additional plates would be needed.

Q: 5. Is there an attachment that allows a camera to be attached to the spotting scope? Something that would allow a Sony "e" mount camera to be attached to this scope?

A: Yes, you will need (2) items. The Novagrade T-Mount Digiscoping Adapter BH #NOUA00T101 • MFR #UA-00T1-01 to attach over the eyepiece and the Vello T-Mount Lens to Sony E-Mount Camera Lens Adapter BH #VELANEXT • MFR #LA-NEX-T to attach to the Sony camera body. Those (2) pieces will now screw together.

Q: 6. Does this scope have a sliding lens hood?

A: Yes it does. Seen it demonstrated outside of Yellowstone in Gardiner Montana. Blew my Nikon scope out of the water. At $200.00 cheaper here at B&H plus a free tripod was a no brainer.

Q: 7. What do I need to attach a Nikon D5100 to a Celestron Ultima 80 or 100?

A: This scope is about on the limit for magnification but i have tried the Nikon T-Mount (available at B&H) attachment with a D90 and it connected successfully. I could not recommend connecting a camera to this scope as the results were awful. It did not matter what changes to the camera settings i made i could not get any acceptable results. A different scope may yield better results but i have doubts.

Q: 8. What do I need to attach a Nikon D5100 to a Celestron Ultima 100 or 80?

A: sorry I can't help you

Q: 9. Are there any extenders or eyepieces for increasing the magnification? Scope is just OK at 200 yards and would like something to see targets at 300 yards; less than an inch.

A: Unfortunately no this scope we do not have any add on eyepieces for this scope. My sincere apologies.

Q: 10. Will this case allow for access to the zoom ring for the modular zoom eyepiece (with zoom ring adjacent to focus ring)?

A: When the Swarovski Stay-On-Case for ATS-65 / ATS-65 HD / ATM-65 HD Spotting Scope is on the scope, the user will not have access to the Zoom ring.

I ordered this scope specifically to be able to connect my Canon 70D for bird photography and possibly some astrophotography. So far, so good!

I wanted a spotting scope for birding, nature watching and large planetary astronomy. The moon and larger planets are awesome. I am very happy with my purchase. Spend the money on a beefy, stable tripod however. This is not a toy. It is a well-made spotting scope that is on the heavy side. If you use a weak, cheap tripod then you will be fighting frustration. I did considerable research before making a purchase decision. For the price I don't believe you can get a better unit. Thank you B&H Photo.

I love this compact scope. Very light weight and powerful. My friend has a 2000 $ scope and she prefers to use mine. Its small enough to fit in my day pack or over my shoulders with tripod attached.

Have had several cheaper, less powerful spotting scopes and have always been disappointed. This thing is incredible! Haven't given it a real workout yet but looking toward the nearest neighbor, about 1/4 mile away, on the 66X power setting I cannot just see the walnuts on their trees but can also see the stems attaching them! A little dark but when set to 22X everything is very bright and clear. A little purple fuzzing on the outer edges but who looks at anything in the outer edges anyway? Great scope for the money...
