A: The Leofoto FA14+FA10 Cold Shoe and Hot Shoe Adapter (B&H# LEFA14FA10) can most easily be thought of as having three parts: (1) the silver, L-shaped tool called a hex wrench (or Allen key) to adjust the tightness of the side bolts; (2) the FA-14, which has a proprietary clamp on top (into which the also included FA-10 will fit), a pivioting point in the middle, and an Arca Swiss-compatible base at the bottom with a 3/8" female thread in it (which comes with a 1/4" adapter for that thread); (3) the FA-10, which is a proprietary mini quick release plate that fits into the top clamp of the FA-14. The FA-10 has a standard ISO cold shoe on top of it.

Really excellent, you'll never need to buy another one (unless you have more than one camera). Careful with your fingertips when tightening, the knurling on this is rough like a meat-tenderizer.

Lower knob cinches down to clamp on hot shoe; upper knob cinches up to clamp on accessory. How complicated can it get? Threading is durable. There is some mass to this item, but that's good. Not some flimsy plastic junk. Best investment ever.

Good quality and sure fit. Don't take chances with shoe mounted accessories - use a product like this. The cost makes it a hard decision but after you hold it in your hand you will know that you purchased the right item.

This is worth the extra expense because of the build quality. Materials are excellent, knobs can be readily tightened, and device connection is extremely secure.

I use the hot shoe to attach my sound recorder to my Canon 5D-Mark II. The sound recording of the camera is ok for natsound but not for interviews so I bought an external one. I hated to carry so much stuff around and this tiny little piece made my work easier.

I own several of these after buying the others which are less expensive. We only use the Matthews now after being let down by the others. It weighs more but it's a far better product. Trust this with your precious on-cam accessories. The wheels are larger and made of metal. The wheels actually stick flat on surfaces not angled like the cheap plastic ones. After tightening you might have to plier them off but a small price to pay for security. Too many close calls with the other cheap ones! Don't be fooled by the other one's photos. When you receive them they are tiny, small wheels that you can't grip, plastic components, + there's too much play when turning the wheels and loosen up quickly. Trust the Matthews and stop worrying about your Atomos hitting the concrete!
