Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Does this work well with GoPro cameras ?

A: you have to get the GoPro mic input adapter, and have a cold shoe or other place to mount it,. boom pole, etc , but, functions as it should and sounds great. I haven't done extensive testing with it, but the auto power on function seems to work from a regular power up from the GoPro, and not with the quick capture, one button record method... I haven't looked into wether there is a setting that can be changed to remedy that as I use a separate external recorder with the mic on a boom pole, and the quick record button I rarely use. Casey

Q: 2. Would this VideoMic be suitable for recording marching bands from the top of a press box (may be 200 feet away)? Looking for something better than what I get recording with my Panasonic HDC-TM900 video camera.

A: Absolutely. The directional mic is perfect for cutting out most of the surrounding sounds and focusing on what it's pointing at. If you're able to also record with a portable mic closer to the band (zoom h4n and the like) that would be a great to help supplement the audio

Q: 3. Is the mini cable hard wired into the body?

A: No - it's not according to all the hands-on reviews I've watched. A definitive plus over the original.

Q: 4. Will this Rode VideoMic Pro come with those little rubberbands that were included with the original Rode VideoMic?

A: No, that is the reason that they have changed it. It is much better and you do not have to deal with the rubber bands that are a pain.

Q: 5. How to use it for Panasonic Lumix GX8 ?

A: The Lumix GX8 features a 2.5mm connection. In order to use the Rode videomic pro with lyre suspension mount, you'll need a 3.5mm trs female to 2.5mm trs male adapter.

Q: 6. Can you use this on cameras like the Nikon D90 or the Nikon 750?

A: Yes, this shotgun mic kit would work very well with the Nikon D90 or 750, connecting directly into the 3.5mm external mic jack on the camera.

Q: 7. Does this mic pick up the image stabilization noise of the Canon 24-105? And if so, is it very noticeable and is there some type of on-camera bracket that isolates the mic from that sound? Im looking for an inexpensive on-camera solution for home movies and getting sound bites from family.

A: I have the Canon 70D, and I purchased the Rode VideoMic Pro just for that reason! It does not pick up any noise from image stabilization on my Canon lenses. The Rycote shockmount does a perfect job at eliminating unwanted noises.

Q: 8. Can the hot shoe be removed and what thread is used for attachment?

A: It's a cold shoe and it cannot be removed. The thread inside is a standard 3/8".

Q: 9. Can this work with an iPhone 7?

A: Hello Chris, This would not work initially. However, with a simple purchase of the Rode SC4 and the iPhone audio dongle for their Lightening port, it would. You could also look into the new SC6-L from Rode. In order to house the microphone and iPhone you would either need a Rode boompole and extension cable (such as the SC1) or a rig from companies like Beastgrip or Joby.

Q: 10. Will this windbuster/deadcat work on the VMP+? In the description it says it is for the VMP Rycotte.

A: No it will not, the new VMP Pro+ has an integrated windjam, and therefore is not compatible with the deadcat designed for the VMP Pro
