This is a threaded 77mm - 85mm Cavision Step-Up Ring, designed for using the Cavision 3x3 Matte Box with the Canon 24mm-105mm lens. It threads on over the lens hood bayonet mount via threads within its grooved design. Attaching on this way, instead of into the filter thread of the lens, allows this ring to prevent vignetting, since the matte box will sit further back over the lens and the filter stage will be closer to the front of the lens.
