Combining a wide-angle perspective with a fast maximum aperture, this 12mm f/2.0 AF Lens from Rokinon is designed for APS-C-format FUJIFILM X-mount mirrorless cameras and provides an 18mm focal length perspective equivalent in 35mm full-frame format. Three extra-low dispersion elements, one aspherical element, and one hybrid-aspherical element are incorporated into the lens construction to help to control aberrations and distortions for increased clarity and sharpness. Ultra Multi-Coating has also been applied to all lens elements to reduce lens flare and ghosting for increased contrast and color fidelity. The bright f/2.0 maximum aperture excels in difficult lighting conditions and enables greater control over depth of field and focus placement. The Linear STM autofocus motor provides fast, quiet focus, and the lens barrel incorporates a custom function switch and a focus hold button for optimal focus control. Additionally, the lens incorporates a seven-blade diaphragm to produce a smooth quality of bokeh.

Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Is there no autofocus on this lens?

A: No autofocus. But with a lens this wide it's quite easy to achieve focus manually. At f8 and focus set to infinity, almost everything is in focus. Just point and shoot.

Q: 2. Does this lens have an inherent infinity focus problem? I suspect 90% of my shots would be at infinity, and I just want to turn the focus ring all the way to the stop and forget about it.

A: No,not quite. As is true of most lenses, this one focuses slightly past infinity to allow for variables such as filter refraction, weather impact and manufacturing tolerances. My copy appears to be aligned very close to where the infinity indicator points outward toward the front element. So, if you are shooting stopped down somewhat (roughly f/5.6 or beyond - as would be advised for any landscape shooting), focusing to the hard stop would allow infinity to be in fairly good focus. However, as a fast lens (f/2 wide open), more precise focus accuracy is advisable.

Q: 3. will it fit a Sony A7s II?

A: Yes, but since it is made for a crop sensor it will crop your image as if it were on a crop sensor body.

Q: 4. I know this lens is fully manual but when mounted on an A6000 will it communicate at all with the camera for MF-Assist (auto-zoom) when you turn the focus ring? Also will it provide any lens EXIF data?

A: Hello, I have this lens and in my experience the answer to both your questions is no. It does not do Manual Focus Assist (zoom/enlarge when focusing) or record EXIF data. If I am not mistaken it is not only fully manual but fully 'passive' in the sense that it has no brains/processor at all. That being said: it does work with Focus Peaking (where the screen shows highlights around the in focus area) and you can easily assign a button (I use AEL) for MF Assist. The manual control ring for Aperture works well and often for a semi-automatic experience I put the camera in Aperture Priority mode so it compensates the shutter speed and ISO for me. Overall I enjoy the lens. I hope this info helps you make your choice fellow a6000'erBest regards,Jason

Q: 5. I bought this lens for my XT-1 and I can't seem to shoot with it. Everything is on manual but when I click the shoot button nothing happens. How do I fix this?

A: Make sure the camera is set to Shoot without lens It's in the third shooting menu (red) then it's second to bottom. Select on. Also, just above that is the Mount Adapter Setting, in there you can select the focal length, which will be recorded in the EXIF data. The first four are set; lens 5 and 6 are put in manually. This is where you would put in 12mm because the first 4 settings do not have 12 . FYI, because there is no communication between the lens and camera, the Aperture is not recorded in EXIF.

Q: 6. When using this lens, I get black corners in my pictures, it looks like I am looking thru a tube, is there something wrong with lens, or am I doing something wrong? The viewfinder also shows this black distortion.

A: This lens is designed for cameras with an APS-C size sensor. If your camera is full frame, like the Sony A7 series, it will vignette.

Q: 7. Is the silver the same lens as the black? It is a lot cheaper and I don't want to spend $70 extra to have a black lens

A: Same performance. I've been using it with the a6300 for astro and landscape photography and it always has a home in my travel bag.

Q: 8. Will this lens fit on a Canon T3i?

A: No it will not. This lens is for the Canon M mirrorless camera which has a different mount from their DSLRs.

Q: 9. I have been told that for the Fuji X system, firmware update is possible through the camera's body. Is it right?

A: Yes. correct Here is a step by step assistance that will help you with the procedure. https://bit.ly/3MGFz6R

Q: 10. is any difference in quality between the silver and the black? as the silver is cheaper.

A: No difference, just color. Black is more popular hence the price difference.

This Rokinon lens produces sharp images with minimum distortion and very little chromatic aberration. Although it lacks autofocus, focusing is easy and reliable on my Sony alpha 6000. Ordering from B&H was easy and free delivery was quick in only two days. I would highly recommend this product.

Before buying this product, I had done a lot of research, and after reading at least 20 reviews and watching 2 video reviews, I finally decided on this in preference to the Zeiss Touit 12mm f2.8. The main reason I chose this was the cost/performance ratio and I have not been disappointed. As many reviews mention, at f2.0, the image is pretty sharp, but between f2.8 and f8, sharpness improves across the frame and the corners are acceptably crisp. There is clearly some chromatic aberration which is noticeable on areas of very high contrast, but that is a one-click fix in Lightroom. I was a little concerned about whether the manual focus and manual aperture would be annoying, but neither has been an issue so far. I set the a6000 to aperture priority mode and then let it set the shutter speed appropriate to the aperture I select. Accurate focusing is reasonably easy with focus peaking, but to make sure, I assigned focus-zoom to the C1 button, which makes it very easy to get everything sharp. The build quality is nice it feels solid and chunky, without being too heavy. The lens itself is only about 6.5cm long, and although the lens hood is quite large, that can be reversed on the body of the lens so that it doesn't stick out when the lens is being carried. I ordered this to be delivered to Japan, and it arrived within 10 days by standard mail. Very good service. Overall, I'm really happy with it. Good performance and the price is great.

I mainly use this product for landscape and cityscape photography. I purchased it in NYC before embarking on my trip to Paris, France. In the short time that I have used it, I have been able to capture unique angles and great scenes that would have been impossible with my other lenses.

I just started getting into photography after seeing a photo of the Milky Way. I bought this lens, recommended by lonelyspeck.com for that purpose in mind (astrophotography). Excellent low light wide angle lens. Images are sharp. For the price I think it's an excellent buy.

I am in love with this lens. I bought it specifically for a trip to Iceland to capture the landscapes and the northern lights. The large aperture is fantastic for night photography and astrophotography. The images are very sharp and the lens is surprisingly small for its wideness and brightness. However it still feels very sturdy and metallic. The only criticism is inherent in the lens in that its a manual focus. However due to its wide angle the focal depth is so large that manual focusing is not too difficult especially with focus peaking on the X cameras. I'd highly recommend the lens if you can deal with manual focusing and looking for great image quality for a great price.

I have been researching for a wide angle lens for a decently low cost and came across this. I love it, have been using it for nature/landscape/architecture photography. The manual focusing is pretty easy with my Sony A6000 which has focus magnification. The quality is great, the size is not large, the build is nice. I even dropped it recently from a good height, still good! Cons: I wish I had gotten it sooner!

Lens is a little soft on corners at F 2.0 but sharpens up at F 2.8. It is a excellent wide angle manual lens for Sony e-mount cameras for the price.

As a professional photojournalist, I need fast lenses and little distortion. Over the years I have owned a half dozen super wide lenses. Nothing compares to the sharpness of this lens and lack of distortion. I cannot say enough about the image quality. At night, using Liveview on a Sony Alpha 6000, street scenes are easy to focus quickly with focus peaking set at medium. During the day, I will pre-focus at 2.0 and then stop down for error. Simple.
