The SSD is FIPS 140-2 validated, that is the cryptography standard required by the US federal government for protection of sensitive data. It covers 11 areas of its cryptographic security system, including physical security, cryptographic key management, and design integrity.

Featuring AES-XTS 256-bit hardware encryption, the Aegis Padlock encrypts all data on the drive in real-time, keeping your data safe even if the hard drive is removed from its enclosure.

With no software installation required for setup or operation and the ability to run on any platform, the Aegis Padlock provides stress-free deployment in corporate environments. Administrator feature allows it to enroll up to four unique user ID's and one administrator, making it a suitable business collaboration tool.

All data, PINs, and encryption keys are always encrypted while at rest.

It also employs a useful drive reset feature, which can be implemented with a unique command. This clears all PINs and data, and creates a new randomly generated encryption key, enabling the drive to be reset and redeployed as many times as needed.

With the Aegis Padlock SSD you can set the unattended drive to lock after a pre-determined amount of time. In addition, you can pre-program your own unique Self Destruct PIN which, once implemented, instantly destroys all PINs, data and creates a new encryption key.

The Aegis Padlock uses a three step approach to protect against a Brute-Force attack. The first step is to deny access to the drive until the drive can verify the user PIN. After several incorrect attempts the drive will lock itself, requiring the drive to be plugged in again to input a PIN. This feature blocks automated attempts to enter PIN numbers. Lastly, after a pre-determined number of failed PIN entries, the Padlock assumes it is being attacked and will destroy the encryption key and lock itself, rendering the data useless and requiring a total reset to redeploy the Padlock.

Designed with protection in mind, the Aegis Padlock's wear-resistant keypad and case is impervious to dust, grit and water, and hides key usage to avoid tipping off a potential hacker to the commonly used keys.

It can transfer data up to 300 Mb/s with USB 3.0.

Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. How robust is the recovery software? A reviewer stated they lost 1 year of photos... can you recover full drive if it fails?

A: Recovery software might be able to recover a deleted file in some cases. If a drive fails you will not be able to recover it. USB sticks are not long term or high reliability storage they are meant for moving information from one system to another.

Q: 2. After I put in my security pin do I press anything else?

A: After entering the PIN, the Unlock button should be pressed. Further instructions can be found in the included manual.

Q: 3. Does this have a battery? Meaning, can it be put away for long periods without fear of a failure due to battery depletion?

A: There is no battery. The power comes from connecting to a computer.

Q: 4. Does this have a battery that must be maintained?

A: This item is bus powered so no battery is required.

Q: 5. is Apricon Aegis Secure Key 3nx encrypted usb compatible with android mobile phone?

A: Yes, the Apricorn Aegis Secure Key 3NX Encrypted USB 3.1 Gen 1 Flash Drive will be compatible with Windows, Mac, Android and Linux.

Q: 6. Is this formatted in Fat32 or ExFat?

A: The 128GB Extreme PRO USB 3.0 Flash Drive is formatted as Fat32. If you would like to save individual files larger than 4GB (ie. video files) then you can reformat to ExFat. It is a really nice product and I paid twice the current cost when it was first released. Enjoy.

Q: 7. does this charge when plugged into a phone or only in a computer?

A: Yes, this does work with smartphones.

Q: 8. Does it have a WRITE LOCK, so once password is used it can be used as READ ONLY ?

A: I am sorry, this is not specified by the manufacturer.

Q: 9. I understand the Aegis Configurator only works on Windows but does the flashdrive itself have any problems working with Mac computers?

A: This device is compatible with Windows, Mac, Linux, Android, Symbian, and any powered USB OS with a storage file system.

Q: 10. Does this works with Microsoft surface pro 6

A: Yes, this SanDisk 1TB Extreme Pro USB 3.2 Solid State Flash Drive, would be compatible with the Microsoft Surface Pro 6.

I Purchased this in order to expand the capacity of my MacBook Pro storage. My intention was to add an additional 2 TB of SSD storage. I was also looking for a FireWire 800 interface as my laptop is getting a little aged at this point. This housing fulfilled all of my needs and allowed me to add the external storage. Now I have ample room for back up and onboard storage.

Easy to use. I like the on and off switch. Great product the best I've ever use.

The rare combination of USB3.1 and FireWire800. Need to buy IEEE Firewire 9 pin to 4 pin conversion cable to work with FireWire400 port on my old computer. The transfer speed is about 5 times faster than USB2.0.

I use this enclosure with a 2015 5K iMac in lieu with a 750GB Crucial SSD, as a boot drive over USB 3. The speed is great, about 2.5x faster than the internal 7200 rpm regular HDD (but that also depends on the SSD type, it's not even the fastest kind). I have also used it for a while with a 2010 27 iMac, also as a boot drive but over FireWire 800 (as that model only has a slower yet USB 2), and the speed gain was fascinating, there was no need to crack open the machine and put the SSD inside (as was originally planned). The product itself is very nicely built and easy to assemble. Somewhat thicker than other similar enclosures I have, but not by much. The included faux leather pouch is quite fancy too!

Using the enclosure for external drive on MacBook Pro 13 unibody. Wanted the Firewire 800 speed for an external bootable drive. Found it best to follow instructions of NOT screwing the hard drive down to the heat sink(even though there were enough screws in the package to do so). As it turned out two of the drives I was using were bad so it was easy to just open the end-cap and slide the I/O board with hard drive out to replace then slide it back in. The two end-caps (one permanent the other has screws to hold it in place) hold parts inside fairly well with a 2.5 5400 rpm SATA hard drive. This case is not intended to be water-proof, shock-proof or dust-proof etc. Just an enclosure for an external hard drive best used laying flat and still. Happy with the fact that package includes USB 2 to USB 3 cable as well as Firewire 800 cable. device is capable of daisy-chaining Fireire 800 devices since it has two ports. Included is a pleather carrying case. Has a tiny on-off switch. Case is see-through clear plastic with reasonably thick construction. The blue LED when turned on is a good visual cue not to shake or move the enclosure as the hard-drive is on and spinning. Careful not to tighten side screws to hold the end-cap in place is they may strip or crack the plastic piece.

I love it and it serves its purposes given new performance to my 2014 Mac mini as a startup disk. Just be warned that the total available capacity is 960GB, not 1 TB.

Just installed my drive and went to work. Use for a testing unit to startup other computers and run test utilities.
