While using off-camera flash is generally preferable for quality artistic lighting, this item is the next best thing. For me, it gets the most use indoors when I move around a lot with my flash on- camera (Nikon Z-6 with SB-700 flash). Results with the Lite-Scoop are far better than without in that the light is greatly softened and there are no resulting harsh shadows or red-eye when photographing people. The modifier works well in both portrait and landscape modes and it easily fits in my camera bag for travel. Results are not quite as good as using the flash angled backward to low white ceilings and white walls but it does a very good job when ceilings are high, colored, and/or dark. It also works outdoors but I have limited practice using it as fill flash in daylight situations. It should not be considered as a substitute for off-camera and multi-flash setups with light stands and reflectors/diffusers, if you are of an artistic bent, but it does its job well. I purchased it from B&H after comparing reviews and videos for it vs. the newest Gary Fong Lightsphere mainly because of its portability and more focused light output. I have no regrets - Recommended.

I have bought many of these and other types of light modifiers in the past and have gotten just OK results. The Lite Genius Scoop 3 is perfect. I use it now for events and am thrilled with the results. Highly recommended.

I have tried several diffusers before: the disc (very big), the curve plastic reflectors, small soft boxes (hard to carry) and by far, this is the best. It gives you a great soft light easy to balance in color. Have been using it for a couple of weeks, and so far so good. Only thing is that brand printing on the back looks informal when taking it out...looks a little unprofessional, somehow, a little cheap, but this product is not and does not deserve to look like that. Highly recommended. I would suggest remove the big white brand printing on the back and adding a carrying case

I compared using my flash with the built-in bounce card and flash head pointed toward an 8' white ceiling; and then adding the Lite-Scoop. The colors looked washed out using my flash in the standard bounce method above. Using the Lite-Scoop greatly improved the colors and flesh tones on my subject. Also, the Lite-Scoop is so light it ads no weight. This is a great product and very portable. I highly recommend it!

I've tried a good number of different modifiers to use with run and gun flashes, and this is by far the one I've been happiest to use. it spreads light evenly and uniformly whether the flash is used on camera or off.


It may seem like a lot to pay for a piece of shaped foam, but the results are better than anything else I've tried that allows the flash to still be camera mounted or held out away from the camera in my left hand.

It holds shape well, even when packed in a bag that might slightly warp the shape while in the bag. As soon as I take it out of the bag, it recovers the correct shape.

I've not had a chance to use it a lot but it does a nice job.

I was initially skeptical as it is expensive. I shoot nature macro and always use my diy foam reflector with good results. Seeing the good review, I decided to give it a try. I have no regret and this is now my go-to diffuser. 

The reflected light is very soft and can fill in the shadow areas very well. Details are enhanced very well.

It is very durable. I accidentally left it in the field. Three weeks later when I went to the same site, I saw it hanging on a tree with plenty of mountain bike tyre marks. Gave it a wipe and it was as good as new again.

It is expensive but it is very good.

Not quite a soft box or umbrella. But can you stick those in your bag? Even easier than a Gary Fong...

While it is intended for indoor use I use mine outdoors as well. I love how it diffuses the light and eliminates shadows indoors too. The first photo at the lighthouse is evidence of what it can do outdoors. The second photo shows what is typical of what I get indoors using it.
