The UV-IR Cut #486 MRC Basic Filter from B+W is a 39mm ultraviolet and infrared control filter that is useful for digital cinematography and still photography. When used, 88% of ultraviolet light waves are blocked at 380 nanometers, along with 95% of infrared light waves at 700 nanometers, ensuring that light limited to the visible spectrum is recorded. When used along with multi-stop neutral-density filters, potential infrared color shifts are prevented or minimized, preserving color accuracy throughout the frame. This filter also reduces unwanted blue castes while recording digital video or still photos under daylight that also features intense ultraviolet light.

B+W MRC Basic filters are made with the exclusive Multi-Resistant Coating (MRC) nano premium coating technology. This high-quality broadband coating is applied on both sides and enhances the optical imaging properties, allowing uniform and increased transmittance across the entire light spectrum to be achieved, with minimal physically induced remaining reflection. The nano all-around protection on the filter glass also ensures increased scratch resistance and extremely fast, easy cleaning, providing a long filter life. The slim filter ring design is compatible with wide-angle lenses with an equivalent width of a 17mm full-frame lens. The top knurling is redesigned for enhanced gripping.

88% of ultraviolet light waves are blocked at 380 nanometers, before which they are further removed, reducing bluish cast of daylight when recording video or still photos.

95% of infrared light waves are blocked at 700 nanometers, after which they are progressively eliminated.

Useful with CCD or CMOS sensors to filter out infrared light pollution that causes color shifts frequently associated with high-definition recording with multi-stop neutral-density filters.

Does not require adjustments to exposure while in use.

Thirty layers of interference coatings on the front surface limit light that falls on a digital camera sensor to the visible spectrum.

Multicoated rear surface prevents internal ghosting and reflections.

Constructed from Schott glass for optical clarity.

F-Pro brass filter ring helps to prevent jamming and provides additional strength.

55mm front filter threads allow use with other filters to protect the front surface or combine with other effects.

Plastic case for storage and transport.

Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Is this compatible with Nikon Z6 and Z7 bodies?

A: I just tried on my Z7 with two Nikon R1 ring flashes. It worked perfectly. Very annoyed with no way to trigger remote flash from Z7. Not sure I like the twist-tight onto hot-shoe. Nikon flash's flip-tight is much better.

Q: 2. Will it work with 580EX2 ?

A: Indeed, that's how I use it. It's amazing and you can set all settings in the Camera if you have relatively modern Canon DSLR.

Q: 3. Work with Pen -F?

A: The Vello IRM-O IR Remote Mini for Select Olympus Cameras is not compatible with the Olympus PEN F camera.

Q: 4. I have a Csnon 580 EXII. If I buy this. Should I also buy the Vello receiver? Or It just work alone with the camera and the flash? Thanks!

A: This transmitter can fire a 580EX II optically, as long as the two are in line of sight with one another.

Q: 5. Will this work with the sb200 flashes?

A: This commander can work with the Nikon SB-R200 flash and other Nikon flashes within the i-TTL system.

Q: 6. Is this compatible with the Pentax K-3?

A: Yes, it is compatible with the K3.

Q: 7. Can each group (A, B, C) be independently set to different channels? Example: Group A to Channel 4, and Group B to Channel 2 at the same time.

A: You may set the desired group and the channel individually on the Nikon wireless infrared i-TTL flash(es) you own. Each flash does not have to be on the same group/channel. However, while you may also set different groups and channels on the Vello FWIRC-N FreeWave IR TTL Flash Commander for Nikon, you may only use one channel at a time on the Commander. As such, regardless of their group setting, if the off-camera flashes are not set to the channel actively set on the Vello FWIRC-N FreeWave IR TTL Flash Commander, then they will not fire.

Q: 8. So, this is not compatible with K-x dslr? Thanks

A: The Vello IRM-P IR Remote Mini for Select Pentax Cameras is compatible with your Pentax K-X DSLR.

Q: 9. Is there any point in getting this for my Nikon D810? I understand the D810 has commander mode built in, but I am looking for a method to create a stronger infrared signal to read my off camera Speedlights.

A: I don't know if this will get you better range than the built in commander mode, but it does offer other advantages. First, I believe the built in commander uses the pop-up flash to signal the off-camera flashes. Even if you have it set to not contribute to the exposure, it will still probably add noticeable light in some scenarios. The pop-up flash can also cause people to blink. This avoids all of that. You could tape a piece of IR plastic over your pop-up, but this is definitely more professional looking. Last, the UI on this makes it very convenient to make setting changes. Especially if you are not using i-TTL, the UI on this makes it easy to adjust the flash power of each group without having to go through the camera menu. The downside of this is that you have to attach something to your camera while built in commander is, well... built in. In short, I don't know if this will get you better range, but it offers other advantages and conveniences. This does have better range than the Nikon SU-800, and also has a more compact shape. Whether those conveniences are worth the price is a matter of opinion. I got this because my camera body doesn't have built in commander. If my next camera body has built in commander, I will probably still use this. I typically just leave this attached anyway since I don't put my flashes on-camera very often. I am just an amateur, so my use cases differ greatly from a professional.
