Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Could I use this for single 8 film (8mm) too?

A: Yes, the Wolverine Data 8mm and Super 8 Movie Reels2Digital MovieMaker can scan 8mm film.

Q: 2. Will this work with Super 8 negative film? Or is it reversal only?

A: It is designed to work with positive (reversal) film. Keep in mind that it digitizes at a rate of about 2 frames per second. A 30 fps .mp4 file is created by it, so you must use software to adjust the 30 fps .mp4 file down to 18 fps for Super 8 and 16 fps for regular 8 film. If you digitize negative film, you will have to figure out how to invert the picture and do color balance to get the colors right.

Q: 3. Did anyone try to digitize very dry film? My old one doesn't run well on the 8mm projector because of a little bit shorter distance between frames.

A: This machine operates slower than normal 18fps projector speeds. It also uses the sprocket to advance frames instead of a projector's pull-down claw. For these reasons, if the machine is set at the right format (regular 8mm or super 8mm) and the film is rides comfortably over the sprocket and does not tear in the first foot or so, it should work okay. Old dry film can be slightly revivified by wiping it with a 'film chamois' wet with Kodak Film Cleaner while winding the film between two rewinds.

Q: 4. Will one be available to accept 7 (400') reels?

A: At this time it is for smaller reels. This model is for 7 (400') reels, reflecta Super 8 Scanner B&H # RESUPER8FS MFR # SUPER 8.

Q: 5. Most of my films are on 7 inch reels will they work on this? I would rather buy this unit and transfer my own films.

A: No, 7 inch reels don't fit. For each of my 7 inch reels I used an old edit/splicer to wind half reel of film onto a 5 inch reel, then cut the film and put the remainder onto another 5 inch reel. Then I digitized from each 5 inch reel. I ended up with two MP4 files which I combined later using my video editor.

Q: 6. Are you able to set the machine to record at 18 or 24 fps instead of 30?

A: The only listed speed is 30FPS. We are of the opinion that no, other speeds are not possible.

Q: 7. Can I take a part the 8 mm or high 8 tapes and put it in the wolverine movie maker

A: The Wolverine Data 8mm and Super 8 Movie Reels2Digital MovieMaker (BH #WOSUPER8) is only designed to work with 8mm and Super 8 film. We would not recommend using it with hi-8 tapes.

Q: 8. Will it PLAY the audio from the stripe on the film? Please separate this from the question about whether it records anything. Clearly it does not.

A: Unfortunately Wolverine Data 8mm and Super 8 Movie Reels2Digital MovieMaker will not play the audio from the stripe on the film.

Q: 9. can this machine do pal?

A: TV-OUT (NTSC) ONLY. There is no PAL.

Q: 10. Do you have instructions in french for the scanner 8mm and super 8mm

A: Sorry,only in English
