Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. will the ef extender work with my ef-s lens?

A: No; the Canon Extender EF 1.4X III, B&H # CA14XEF3, is not compatible for use with EF-S lenses. Canon's extenders are specifically designed for use with their professional L-series telephoto zoom lenses. Canon's extenders can only be used with the following lenses: • Single fixed focal length L-series lenses of 135mm or greater (whether original or upgraded versions) and these zooms: • EF 100-400 f/4.5-5.6L IS USM (and version II) • EF 70-200 f/2.8L IS USM (and version II, III) • EF 70-200 f/2.8L USM • EF 70-200 f/4L IS USM • EF 70-200 f/4L USM

Q: 2. Will this converter autofocus with a T6s and 100-400 II?

A: Hi. The short answer is No, AF will not work. Canon AF requires wide open aperture of f/5.6 or wider. With the 1.4 telextender, which reduces light by one stop, combined with the 100-400 lens, the wide open aperture is tinier than f/5.6. I own the same lens and the telextender; when I use both, I focus manually. Shot the August 2017 eclipse with that combo.

Q: 3. Does the Canon 1.4x III work with the 100-400 III and a 5D Mark III? Auto-focus as well?

A: 100-400II and 5DIII with 1.4x will not auto focus

Q: 4. Having read and understood your previous answer(s) regarding compatibility with an EF 70-300 f/4-5.6L IS USM lens (or non-L version), and seeing numerous customer reviews related to using the EF 12 II Extension Tube to successfully facilitate the use of the 1.4X EF III Extender with non-compatible lenses, including the mentioned zoom and the 100 f/2.8L IS Macro as examples; and understanding why you might not be able to recommend that unconventional combination as a Canon dealer, what are the theoretical optical and functional effects of doing so (i.e. effective focal length and focusing range, autofocusing and autoexposure functions w/ 5D MK III, etc.)? Does it produce a 420mm f/8 equivelant with a limited maximum focus distance (i.e. less than infinity)? Is it closer focusing as a result of the Tube? Thanks greatly for your help.

A: Unfortunately the Canon teleconverters will not work on that lens. Adding the extension tube will prevent you from focusing to infinity but you will be able to focus closer then the lens normally allows. As far as i can tell the teleconverter would not work with the extension tube. However you can you the Kenko teleconverter instead. Please take a look at the following link:http://bhpho.to/1gh7gz9The Kenko teleconverter will not support the IS feature and you will lose AF in low light situations. But the Kenko will fit the the 70-300 lens while the Canon teleconverter will not.

Q: 5. Will the 1.4x EF Extender III work with Cannon's EF 28-300mm, 3.5-5.6 L IS USM lens?

A: The Canon 1.4x EF Extender III is only compatible with a select number of Canons professional telephoto lenses. It is not compatible with the EF 28-300mm lens.

Q: 6. will autofocus work with a 6D mk 2 and the EF100-400 4.5 -5.6 L IS ?

A: Yes, it will autfocus using the center focus point on your camera but you may not get AF when zoomed all the way to 400mm.

Q: 7. Will the canon extender 1.4 work and auto focus with a 70-200 f4l ( non is version ) ?

A: The Canon extender 1.4x III does work and does auto focus with the 70-200 f4L Canon lens.

Q: 8. DOES IT MAINTAIN AUTOFOCUS FOR MIRRORLESS RP WITH 100-400 LENS ATTACHED AT MAX APERTURE ?

A: Yes it does maintain autofocus throughout the entire aperture range.

Q: 9. Will I lose autofocus using this extender on a Canon Rebel T7i w/100-400 mm 4.5-5.6 L II?

A: You will have autofocus up to 400mm but at times may not autofocus depending upon the lighting conditions.

Q: 10. Will this work with the Canon EF-S 55-250mm f/4-5.6 IS II Lens?

A: The Canon teleconverters are only compatible with a select number of the Canon pro-level telephoto lenses, and are not compatible with the EF-S 55-250mm lens. Unfortunately, we do not carry, nor am I aware of, any teleconverter on the market that would be compatible with the EF-S lenses.

This was recommended by a friend to extend my 70-200 f/2.8 L. I haven't had a chance to do an indepth study in Lightroom, but outdoors it appears to be nice and crisp - worth the 1-stop loss. I'm pretty cautious when it comes to handling my expensive camera equipment so I can't say how much abuse it would take, but it does seem well built and sturdy.

I bought the 1.4 III extender to use with my 70-200 2.8L IS II lens. With this extender the images are sharp even in low light levels. Very happy with it.

A light wight combination compared to my EF 600 f/4 and the results are just great. Love the fast autofocus.

Works very well with old 600 IS lens and is sharp wide open. Worth the upgrade for me.

I would have loved to get a 2x multiplier, but every camera nut said that a 1.4 took sharper pictures, so I just needed to get over it. The extender fits on amazingly easily, is clean to use, and the pictures are still nice and sharp. I take photos of jazz gigs at giant outdoor places like the Hollywood Bowl, so needed some cheating, so this helps.

Does not degrade the lens functionality, adds that extra reach when you need it

Used in conjuntion with the new mkII 500L. I can't see any difference in image quality with the new 500. The image is sharp all the way to the corners on my crop sensor 7D. Can't speak for other sensor sizes. This will mainly be used for birding with some bird-in-flight shooting from time to time. Thus autofocus speed is something I've got to worry about. While it's not really that bad, I can definitely tell the speed suffers somewhat when this goes on the lens. I think it will be fine for BIF shooting as long as you don't lose AF lock on the bird. Once the lens starts hunting, it's been too slow so far to find the bird again. For static shots or slower subjects I wouldn't hesitate a second before using this if the reach was needed. YMMV for fast or erratic subjects like BIFs.

Works perfectly. As I'd expect from top end Canon merchandise. And B&H was perfect as always.

Fantastic performance when paired with Canon 500mm f4 II super telephoto. Excellent IQ and AF performance.

I bought this 1.4 III extender to replace the original 1.4 that I had. I shoot sports and theatre and sometime I can't get as close to the action as I would like. I pair it either with my 7d for sports and 5d for theatre and my 70-200 2.8L IS lens. With the old extender the focus was sometimes soft or too slow to catch the action. But so far this extender seems to work faster and the majority of the images are sharper even in low light levels of a theatre.
