A: No; the Canon Extender EF 1.4X III, B&H # CA14XEF3, is not compatible for use with EF-S lenses. Canon's extenders are specifically designed for use with their professional L-series telephoto zoom lenses. A: Hi. The short answer is No, AF will not work. Canon AF requires wide open aperture of f/5.6 or wider. With the 1.4 telextender, which reduces light by one stop, combined with the 100-400 lens, the wide open aperture is tinier than f/5.6. I own the same lens and the telextender; when I use both, I focus manually. Shot the August 2017 eclipse with that combo.

A: Unfortunately the Canon teleconverters will not work on that lens. Adding the extension tube will prevent you from focusing to infinity but you will be able to focus closer then the lens normally allows. As far as i can tell the teleconverter would not work with the extension tube. However you can you the Kenko teleconverter instead. But the Kenko will fit the the 70-300 lens while the Canon teleconverter will not.
