Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Is it posssible to record sequence pictures jpg or tiff etc? I want to make movie with my NLE and with better quality codecs.

A: It only will output to mp4 file format.

Q: 2. My films are recording with a split frame, is there anyway I can adjust or correct this?

A: If your moviemaker is a Wolverine check the firmware. latest should be P08a and has a frame adj.

Q: 3. Will this work with Super 8 negative film? Or is it reversal only?

A: It is designed to work with positive (reversal) film. Keep in mind that it digitizes at a rate of about 2 frames per second. A 30 fps .mp4 file is created by it, so you must use software to adjust the 30 fps .mp4 file down to 18 fps for Super 8 and 16 fps for regular 8 film. If you digitize negative film, you will have to figure out how to invert the picture and do color balance to get the colors right.

Q: 4. Where can I find a 5 inch take up reel for 8mm film?

A: https://www.focusnordic.se/Gepe/Filmhjul has in the WEB-catalog if You not already have found any ask them:Telephone (Sales):+46 (0)31 336 2300FAX:+46 (0)31 44 63 33E-mail Sales:info@focusnordic.se

Q: 5. Can I replace hard drive with 2.5 SSD hard drive?

A: No it is designed for a 3.5" enterprise hard drive which is in it.

Q: 6. I have some 8mm films that have sprocket holes on both sides of the film. The film is 15 - 16mmm wide. Will this work with these films?

A: No. If the film is 16mm wide, it's 16mm film, not 8mm film. This device will only digitize 8mm film and Super 8mm film. Super 8mm film is the same width as 8mm film, but has a slightly larger image size on the same width film.

Q: 7. Most of my films are on 7 inch reels will they work on this? I would rather buy this unit and transfer my own films.

A: No, 7 inch reels don't fit. For each of my 7 inch reels I used an old edit/splicer to wind half reel of film onto a 5 inch reel, then cut the film and put the remainder onto another 5 inch reel. Then I digitized from each 5 inch reel. I ended up with two MP4 files which I combined later using my video editor.

Q: 8. Is there a way to have each sequenced frame separately (as in 3,600 jpg files or so) instead of butchering the super 8mm original cinematics with a tragic 30 fps mp4 file? What would happen if I turn off the machine before it renders each separate frame into, again, this sadistic, merciless, and just plain cruel 30 fps mp4 file? Is that possible? Is that at all how it works? Anyone tried this?

A: It records only in the 30 FPS MP4 format. It is possible to capture a single frame in your editing program.

Q: 9. Will one be available to accept 7 (400') reels?

A: At this time it is for smaller reels. This model is for 7 (400') reels, reflecta Super 8 Scanner B&H # RESUPER8FS MFR # SUPER 8.

Q: 10. Is there a similar product for 16mm film?

A: I have purchased the Wolverine Data 8mm & Super 8mm Movie Maker. It is a motion picture film scanner. Yes, there are scanners for 16mm film. No, they are not made by Wolverine. No, they are not consumer grade. Yes, B&H sells a Cintel 16mm scanner for around $30,000. Yes, you may be able to find a used commercial scanner on Ebay. Yes, you may search online for instructions to make your own 16mm scanner. Yes, you may take your 16mm films to a commercial scanning service. Good luck.
