A: I was able to make it work with a 7D and the 18-55 kit lens, extension tubes and a filter ring adapter. Adjusting the zoom until I got full frame. I agree with comments below, use manual focus. I used a remote controlled flash about 5 feet away for illumination

A: This is made for Nikkor 55mm f/2.8 Micro-Nikkor witch has 52mm filter thread and Tamron is 55mm, so you will need step up ring , but the 60mm will crop the slide abbot 10% that's the reason it will not work for me

A: Depends on 50mm lens used. I would suggest using the following for a good shooting experience Nikon 55mm f/2.8 Micro-Nikon lens and PK-13 Extension Tube.

A: No, the 60mm Micro-Nikkor lenses focus to 1:1 without an extension tube. And with a DX sensor, you'll actually only need less than 1:2 magnification if you're duplicating slides, because your original will be more than twice as big as your sensor. The extension tube will allow you to increase magnification, you'll actually need less magnification due to crop factor. I don't know if you'll be able to get the whole slide in the smaller DX frame with this setup (you'll have to experiment and see), you would actually be better off with the 55mm Micro-Nikkor, which is 1:2 magnification without the extension tube, closer to what you need for a DX camera to duplicate 35mm slides.

A: No adapter is required as this fits in front of the lens and connects to the lens threads. I use this on a Canon Macro lens without any adaptor.

A: With enough extension between the camera and lens, or a lens reversed, I understand almost any lens can function as a macro lens. The issue one will have with this adapter and at least the longer lens you note, is that the tube goes between the lens and the slide for the right focus. This tube has to be much longer for a lens longer than 55 or 60 mm, and longer still when the 1.5 crop of the DX format is considered. I am using the set-up described by Wayne Fulton (google scantips) and bought a separate extension tube on Amazon, shipped from HK (to add more distance between lens and slide). I believe also macro lenses in general are recommended for this sort of thing because at short focus distances they are sharp across an entire flat field. If I were to do it again with my DX camera and many slides to scan, I think I would buy this slide copier plus Nikon's 40 mm DX macro lens.
