Q: 1. Does the Director mini come with a power supply?
A: Yes, there is a universal power supply kit included in the box with the Magewell Director Mini Compact Live Streaming Encoder, Switcher, Monitor & Recorder.
Q: 2. I'm wondering how you stabilize the arm onto the tripod so that it does not swivel around? The grey turning wheel is swinging the arm around the tripod so I cant get a fixed 90 degree photo without movement. Please help, thank you!
A: This is an inherent design flaw in this arm; no matter how tightly you think you've secured it, the arm will still move at inopportune times. This isn't the best solution unless you already have the gear, but what I've done is to attach one end of a Magic Arm (also by Bogen) to the tripod with a Superclamp (ditto) and the other end to the lateral arm with another Superclamp. This technique also works well to stabilize a Magic Arm-mounted camera to a support like a stepladder, but requires two MagicArms, three Superclamps, and a camera mounting plate.
Q: 3. How much weight will this side arm support?
A: I use it connected to a Gitzo tripod. With the arm fully extended, I can connect my Arca Swiss monoball head, Canon 5DII and a large lens with no problem. Hopefully this helps.
Q: 4. what tripod would work well with this?
A: I use this with a Manfrotto 055XDB tripod with a Manfrotto 498 ball head. I suggest a fairly sturdy tripod since extending the sidearm with a camera will put more imbalance than you might think. I also suggest a tripod whose legs can be adjusted for a wider stance as needed (that is, the legs can open wider than just one position). This is especially needed for shorter setups such as shooting down at something close to the ground where the leg length is not fully extended. The wider leg stance allows for more extension. Hanging a counter weight on the end of the arm that doesn't hold your camera would also work (keeping the center of gravity over the center of the tripod), but this adds overall load the tripod must bear.
Q: 5. Has this been released yet?
A: Yes it has been released. At the time of this posting, July 31, 2016, the Nebula 4100 Lite is a special order product that is drop shipped to you directly from the Manufacture once the order is placed.
Q: 6. I have Manfrotto element. Is it possible to,attach that tripod?
A: I used it on my Manfrotto tripod and it works perfectly. You might need some kind of counter weight depending on how far you extend it. I used a bag with a weight and hung it off the other side.
Q: 7. I'm wondering if a tripod set like the Manfrotto MK290XTC3-BHUS 290 Xtra (a href= http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1175945-REG/manfrotto_mk290xtc3_bhus_290_xtra_carbon_ball.html target= _blank http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1175945-REG/manfrotto_mk290xtc3_bhus_290_xtra_carbon_ball.html/a) would work with this side arm. Also is there anything else I'd need besides the tripod, ball head and side arm?
A: I use mine with a 190XPROB. It works just fine, although you need to keep the legs about 1/2 extended to keep there from being too much rotation since a ball head on the side arm has a lot more leverage than a camera sitting on top of the tripod. For my set up the only other thing I have besides ballhead and sidearm is a laptop table.
Q: 8. I want to use this for rooftop shots in cities. How much weight can it handle. What about combination of Cannon Mark iii & 70-200 mm lens
A: Unfortunately they do not specify a load capacity because it will vary depending on the tripod you are using and the head. However, if you are using a heavy camera and lens like you mentioned, you should use sandbags or a tripod apron to help stabilize the tripod. Please see the following links:http://bhpho.to/Y3MwpPhttp://bhpho.to/1nOcVhvWith the apron, you can place any weight inside such as your camera bag, a sandbag or rocks. Or you can just drape a sandbag over the leg of the tripod to help keep it from tipping.
Q: 9. I use and 3228w bogan manfritto tripod, is this compatible with this tripod? Thanks
A: The side arm extension fits on my Bogan tripod. At first I thought it would be a problem because there is a large hole for an oversized stud to mount on the tripod. The center mount is adaptable to large or small studs. You can mount it on almost any tripod. The same is true on the extended arms. A small or large stud comes with the unit to again mount almost anything on the arms. What does not come with the unit is a counterweight to go on the opposite arm. You can move the counterweight anywhere on the arm to help keep the center of gravity centered at the top of the tripod.
Q: 10. What kind of tripod would you recommend mounting this to? I need to get a tripod that will allow me to shoot overhead. I primarily use a 50mm lens. Any help/advice on which product(s) to get would be much appreciated!
A: Any tripod that is tall enough to extend above you, preferably with as little adjustment of the center column as possible. Having a sandbag on a the weight hook under the column (or a clamp weight, in the absence of a hook) will also help immensely. Both of these things will allow you to keep the center of gravity low. And of course, you also want the tripod to be able to support the total weight of your setup. Depending on the height you need, either of these two tripods could be considered:B&H # MA058B ?
