Roland Cloud is the only authentic software resource for the true TR-707 sound. While the original hardware version is scarce, expensive, and in need of frequent tune-ups, Roland's plug-in is always ready to play whenever you need it. There are some great feature enhancements too, which are only available in the virtual instrument:

  • Analog Circuit Behavior technology captures every detail of the original hardware
  • It uses the original TR-707 sample ROM
  • Includes all 15 original sounds and 64 original patterns
  • 43 new patterns and kits for modern styles
  • Get modern sounds with tuning, decay, attack, snappy, gain, sample-rate adjustment, and more
  • Powerful sequencer with flams, sub-steps, and last-step and per-instrument shuffle
  • Drag and drop audio or MIDI patterns directly to DAW tracks or cells
  • Original and aged skins along with the LCD-style sequencer window
  • Multiple outputs for flexible effects processing with plug-ins like ZENOLOGY FX
  • VST3, AU, and AAX support for popular DAWs
  • Native support for Apple silicon

  • Developed in the mid-1980s, the TR-707 had a 25 kHz, 8-bit (or 6-bit for some tones) sample playback engine that was primitive by today’s standards. These low bit rates caused quantization noise during the sound’s decay, so nondecaying PCM waveforms were used, with decay introduced later in the analog circuitry.
  • Furthermore, deviations in the clock and the analog circuitry downstream of the D/A converter caused variances in the pitch and decay characteristics. And though the TR-707 lacked the ability to edit sounds, the combination of these factors ultimately led to it being highly sought-after for its unique lo-fi punch.

  • Great care has gone into making the TR-707 software feel special to use, just like the original hardware. Realistic new and aged skins match your vibe, and all 15 original sounds and 64 patterns are included. But these recreations go way beyond vintage with 43 kits and patterns for modern genres, wicked sound-shaping options, powerful sequencing, drag-and-drop audio/MIDI for your DAW, multi-output, and more.
  • The TR-707 even works together with the available TR-727, with matching kits and patterns that complement each other perfectly. Load a kit, load a pattern, and let the magic happen.

  • Taking inspiration from aftermarket modifications, Roland's advanced circuit modeling offers parameters that let you dig under the hood and modify the sound in any manner of ways. You can adjust the attack of the bass drum and the snap of the snare, and every sound has ultrasmooth tuning and decay.
  • You can overdrive the internal circuitry, tweak how each PCM waveform behaves, and adjust the PCM clock from 6.25 to 100 kHz for some serious sonic mischief.

  • While the sequencer on the original TR-707 was the most advanced Roland had ever made at the time, the updated sequencer here goes much further, incorporating features that let you add detail and nuance to your grooves.
  • Opening the sequencer’s expanded edit panel reveals individual sequencer lanes with mute, solo, and adjustable shuffle for each instrument. Per-step accent is included, and each step can trigger hard or weak hits, alternate sounds, three types of sub-steps, and nine types of flams.

  • The Lifetime Key system provides an evolving service that includes free lifetime updates, cloud-based mobility with installation for up to five devices, plus access to current Test Drive promotions of instruments and patch collections.
  • A Lifetime Key is a cloud-based authorization for Roland Cloud instruments. Roland Cloud Membership and Lifetime Keys are managed through an online ID called a Roland Account.
  • A free Roland Account is required to access Roland Cloud Manager and will periodically connect to the internet to authorize your Membership and/or Lifetime Keys.
  • Lifetime Key is active as long as your Roland account is active—even if you’re not a paying member.

Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Can the device work on 220V?

A: Yes !

Q: 2. Do all HDMI ports support full 1080p (i)? I have one VR3X and only port # 4 can handle it and it sucks. The other 3 ports can handle only 480p.

A: Yes it can. All four HDMI's handle 1080i,1080p, 720p. There is a switch on the back that sets it to the different settings.

Q: 3. I am looking for a device to superimpose / mix the inputs of multiple video sources at once. I see that the V-1HD has 4 HDMI inputs but from what I understand, only two can be blended into a single output at one time. Is this correct?

A: That would require a more advanced Production Switcher with multiple mixed effect buses. https://bhpho.to/3dNQHyN

Q: 4. Using two hdmi inputs can the child picture be altered in size and be moved to any desired position on the maim picture?

A: You will be able to adjust the position of the smaller image on the screen when using Picture-In-Picture Mode. You will also be able to change the color and the width of the border around the smaller image, however you will not be able to change the size of the smaller image itself.

Q: 5. Is there a way to incorporate a tally light system with this switcher?

A: This is a very basic switcher, have not seen any way for a tally light. If you are looking for a simple, economical switcher, this is a great option, if you want advanced controls or down keys, look elsewhere.

Q: 6. Does anyone have overheating issue on this unit? Mine having lag / freeze / stuck problem here.

A: We recently spoke with Roland and they said that the returns due to defects have been minimal. I can attest that they are well made products. I will have to suggest that if you are out of the B&H 30 day return period that you contact Roland for service. Please see the following link. http://bit.ly/2oJIjGt

Q: 7. Will this video switch work with tripplehead2go input? We are Mac centric, and our display port output goes into the tripplehead2go multi-screen module, which outputs HDMI. This HDMI output works fine with monitors and such but would not pass through a certain video switch we tried (not Roland).

A: I've been using this unit a lot in the last 6 weeks. i can say this much, i have output working from anything i try. two different model iPads via their AV adapter cords. 5 different video cameras (four different models). My macbook pro. playback from a Ninja Blade. etc.. nothing has been flaky or un-accepted. In fact one of my Sony EX1r cameras won't work directly into either of my Ninja Blades. but if i simply run the camera through the V-1HD and straight back out it will work just fine with both Ninja Blades. My Roland V-40HD is also very accepting upon input and output. i'm happy with this unit except for trying to perform live titles as DSK via the units effects... tricky business... but it works.

Q: 8. What else do I need to stream from this gear?

A: To stream from the HDMI output on this switcher you could look in to HDMI Capture Device which will allow you to capture the signal for streaming in to your computer. The BMD UltraStudio Mini Recorder is a good option for people with a Mac that has a Thunderbolt connection. Magewell makes a very nice solution for PC/Mac users who have a USB 3.0 connection. The Magewell device is even backwards compatible with USB 2.0. Another solution is streaming devices that will allow you to send the signal directly to the web. The Teradek VidiU will allow you to send the signal to a variety of streaming services.

Q: 9. What program or device is recommended for playing mpeg videos? Ideally, the video would automatically play when that source is selected so the operator doesn't have to press play after the source is selected.

A: The Roland V-1HD is HDCP compliant, which gives you a wide variety of options for MPEG Video Playback. You could connect a computer with an HDMI output directly to this unit, or you could look at Media Players with HDMI like a Roku or Apple TV. You could even connect a tablet to this switcher and play back video that way. However there is no product available that will automatically start playing when you switch to the assigned channel, the operate will have to manually start the video.

Q: 10. I shoot with 2 70d's & 1 80d will I be able to get a clean out with this switcher? I'm currently post editing everything after I upload the video's to my computer...What a hassle.. What else would I need? Thank you for any advice. Alan

A: yes it will still have good results bec. it has a 4:2:2 color video processing, and get a 4:2:2 8-10bit video recorder for better results
