Designed for capturing pictures of the sun, the Alpine Astronomical Baader Calcium Gen-II Unstacked Ca-K Solar Imaging Filter with LPFC has standard filter threads that fit onto conventional 1.25" eyepieces for astrophotography imaging systems and accessories to improve resolution and reveal solar features. Its enhanced contrast is matched to the quantum efficiency and s/n ratio of typical CMOS cameras. In addition to structures known from white light, such as sunspots, you can see the chromospheric network distributed over the entire surface of the sun, which precedes the formation of sunspots, as well as cells of super-granulation and Ellerman Bombs. The Calcium Gen-II Unstacked Ca-K Solar Imaging Filter is mounted in a 6mm low profile filter cell.

An additional solar filter is required for use of this calcium filter. It's for this that Alpine Astro includes a 7.8 x 11.8" sheet of Baader AstroSolar neutral density 3.8 photo film. This material can be mounted on most telescopes using the online instructions for fabricating your own filter housing, located on the Alpine Astronomical website. Standard ERFs may also be used, including Alpine's Baader Safety Herschel Prism.
