Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Would this be a comparable substitute for a WD Sentinel 4000 12 TB? The Sentinel has two partitions; am I able to do this with the WD PR2100?

A: Yes, this would be a suitable replacement for the WD Sentinel 12TB. You can also make 2 partitions on this unit.

Q: 2. Can the encryption be turned off? I've heard that WD has hardware encryption that makes it impossible to read a drive outside of its original enclosure. Is this true on the My Cloud Pro as well?

A: Yes, it seems based on the raid configuration. The drives it will not work on outside of the server.

Q: 3. Can you create an IP address for AND host your own website on this? How about create a link to a saved file or video and share the file? -thanks.

A: While this is not really meant to host a website, it is meant to serve as a PLEX server for all of your media. It is meant as a storage backup and a P2P server. Yes, you may create a share link for files.

Q: 4. Are the two bays mirrored or can we keep separate data on each one?

A: Yes it would be mirrored. 20TB (2x 10TB drives. 9.9TB usable capacity)* *Usable capacity per drive in default RAID 1. User may modify settings to utilize full capacity

Q: 5. Can this be configured so an off-site client can upload files to us from a remote location?

A: Access Anywhere Access, edit, and share HD media with clients and colleagues using MyCloud.com and the My Cloud mobile app anywhere you have an Internet connection. The device may also be shared out manually in your router, if you have a static IP, by giving strict access privileges and and exposing the specific internal IP of your drive to the public, though this method is a bit less secure than using the MyCloud service.

Q: 6. If I run out of storage space on the drives included in the unit, can I exchange the drives for 2 new ones?

A: You could replace the drives in the unit. However its often more cost effective to just buy another unit when they fill.

Q: 7. Is there a voltage setting for currency in Europe or would I need a plug point converter?

A: The power supply is 100-240V 50/60Hz and auto switching, you would just need an adapter to use it in Europe. A voltage converter is not required.

Q: 8. Can the memory and the storage space be upgraded in the future?

A: Yes, RAM and drives can be upgraded to higher capacities.

Q: 9. Does it work if I just plug in two WD Red disks leaving the other two slots empty? I was planning to plug in just two 10GB (each) disks leaving the other two ports empty to fill with new disks some day in the future... Thanks!

A: Yes you can occupy just two of the four bays. You may have limited options when upgrading to 4 drives later.

Q: 10. Can this device be configured to use the second unused network port on a windows server?

A: This device can be configured to use link aggregation, however without a router in between, the host pc it will be directly connecting to also has to be configured as well.
