Q: 1. What is the ideal distance from the video subject for recording audio for this microphone when attached on a Sony A6300?

A: For most all shotgun mics, the ideal maximum distance to be away from the subject is 3'. Anything beyond that, and you'll notice a reduction in quality of pickup, and more ambient noise. If you need to be farther from a subject, then we'd recommend putting the mic on a boompole and placing it over the head of the talent. Here's a suggestion B&H # ROBP.

Q: 2. Will this boompole receive and conceal a long cord needed to connect mic to camera? Or do you have to find some other way to keep the cord out of the way?

A: Yes it will. It has an opening at the tip and the collar comes off to pass the XLR end through. It also has a removable bottom with cable slot. Unfortunately the cable comes out of the bottom instead of the side so resting the pole on the ground will damage your cable over time.Make sure you have an actual microphone mount, since smaller DSLR style microphone threads don't fit on the larger thread mount.

Q: 3. will this have an internal cable? can it carry a blimp with ntg2

A: This boom pole does not have an internal cable. It comes with a 3/8 of an inch boom pole thread that will be able to support a shock mount or a blimp with that same thread. 3/8 of an inch is a standard size when dealing with shotgun style microphones.

Q: 4. Can the Lyre Mounts be moved closer together for a small mic, like the Sanken CS-M1?

A: Yes, the lyre mounts on the RODE SM4-R Suspension Shockmount can be moved closer together. There are two additional threads inside of the open slots which can be used to attach the lyres.

Q: 5. The Rycote Lyre Shockmount with the Rode Videomic Pro looks to be flimsy and easily breakable, and does not look replaceable. Have you found this to be a concern?

A: It may look flimsy, but the Rycote mount is super durable and chances are it will never break. I've used mine for about a year in the professional application of skateboard filming and mine has taken many hard hits from skateboards (along with my camera) and the Rycote mount is still solid. The durability of the Rycote is and will never be a concern of mine.

Q: 6. Does this mic pick up the image stabilization noise of the Canon 24-105? And if so, is it very noticeable and is there some type of on-camera bracket that isolates the mic from that sound? Im looking for an inexpensive on-camera solution for home movies and getting sound bites from family.

A: I have the Canon 70D, and I purchased the Rode VideoMic Pro just for that reason! It does not pick up any noise from image stabilization on my Canon lenses. The Rycote shockmount does a perfect job at eliminating unwanted noises.

Q: 7. Is the Rode Podcaster Mac compatible (without any additional hardware or software)?

A: Yes it is. I plugged it into my early 2008 Mac Pro. I forget if I had to go into Preferences and select the mic as my input or if it did it for me. I do recommend you use a good set of headphones/earbuds to make sure you hear how you sound on the mic. Just to make sure everything is good. BTW I recommend BSW's Pop Filter: BSW REPOP - Pop Filter for RE20 Microphone. It's super small, and stylish while very functional. IDK if B&H carries them. If they do snag it up. If not, go to bswusa site and run a search for the RE20 Pop Filter

Q: 8. Does it fit Rycote windshield #4?

A: We have not tested the Rode DeadWombat with the Rycote Windshield #4 (B&H # RYWS4) to be able to confirm compatibility, but it seems like it would be larger than desired for the Windshield #4. As a gauge for comparison, the Rycote Windjammer WJ4 (B&H # RYWJ4) is designed specifically for use with the Rycote Windshield #4. The WJ4 has a length of 500mm and an outer diameter of 125mm. The Rode DeadWombat is slightly longer and much wider than the Rycote WJ4. The DeadWombat has a length of 515mm, an inner depth of 508mm, and an outer diameter of 170mm. Rycote notes that a Windjammer is most effective when it fits tightly over the Windshield. Their Windjammers are designed so that their approximate length is about 50mm longer than the corresponding Windshield.

Q: 9. How many inches long is the windshield - I have a shotgun mic (Azden SMG 2x) that is 10 inches long? Will this windshield cover it?

A: This windshield is actually just the cover. Its is not a shell. It was specifically designed for the rode blimp. It is possible that this cover might fit over a different shell but if you just have the shotgun mic then no. It won't. You'll need the ride blimp as well.

Q: 10. What is that case/mount? I can't find it anywhere. I want this exact setup. Have the mic and cable already.

A: It's the olloclip Quick-Flip Case for iPhone 5.
