This 10-stop, {size}mm Tiffen XLE Series apeX Hot Mirror IRND Filter is a combination of both a hot mirror infrared (IR) control filter and a 3.0 neutral density (ND) filter. A hot mirror IRND is ideal for HD cameras, which have greater low-light sensitivity and, subsequently, an increased susceptibility to IR contamination. When using a standard neutral density filter to counter the increased light sensitivity afforded by the HD sensor, the effects of infrared pollution become more apparent. This filter combines an ND filter with a comparable IR control filter to eliminate the spill of infrared light reaching the sensor while still maintaining the extra exposure benefits of a neutral density filter. The hot mirror filtration incorporates a dielectric mirror in order to combat the effects of both near and far infrared regions of the spectrum.

This filter is constructed using ColorCore technology, a process that involves laminating the filter substrate between 2 pieces of optical glass and grinding flat to a tolerance of 1/10,000th of an inch.

Infrared control filter helps to block infrared pollution from affecting the color fidelity of imagery; this enables a wider color gamut and truer colors, especially noticeable in the darker regions of the image.

3.0 neutral density filter provides a 10-stop exposure reduction.

Ideal for use with HD cameras without an integrated infrared-blocking filter.

Hot mirror filter blocks infrared pollution from both near and far regions of the spectrum while allowing all visible light to pass.

Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Does anyone know what it's: "IR Attenuation" ?

A: IR attenuation in the Ice 82mm Slim IRND1000 Filter (10-Stop) means that the filter reduces the amount of infrared light that can reach the camera sensor.

Q: 2. Are theses filter can be hold with the nisi 100mm holder v5 ?

A: Sorry shopper, these Cinema filters will not fit into the V5 Holder.

Q: 3. I have a mirrorless camera that I had converted for IR photography; regular ND filter do not have any effects on exposure; I want to shoot IR with long exposure, will this NiSi IRND do the job?

A: No, the NiSi 82mm PRO Nano IRND 3.0 Filter (10-Stop) would not be compatible for your usage needs. It does the opposite of what you are looking for; it is designed to block IR to the extent that there will not be infrared pollution when taking a long exposure. As an alternative, the filters in the NiSi Swift FS ND Filter Kit (82mm), B&H # NIRFSNDSWK82, are designed to pass all wavelengths of light evenly, so this would also be an alternative for your usage needs. Also, as standard neutral density filters pass along infrared light unless it specifically indicates it has IR reduction, a filter such as the Hoya ProND EX 1000 Filter (82mm, 10-Stop), B&H # HOPNDEX1T82, should also work for your usage needs. https://bhpho.to/3ieQ30o https://bhpho.to/3LZm8bn

Q: 4. Can this be used as a drop-in filter (with the threaded drop-in) with Canon 300mm f2.8L IS USM II & 600mm f4L IS USM II lenses?

A: Yes, the Hoya HD MKII IR ND8 Neutral Density Filter (52mm) can be used as a drop-in Canon EF 300mm f/2.8L IS II USM Lens and the Canon EF 600mm f/4L IS II USM Lens.

Q: 5. where made ? china ?

A: I just receive mine, made in China..

Q: 6. Does the Hoya MKII IRD have front threads in order to mount additional NDs ?

A: Yes, the Hoya HD MKII IR ND1000 Neutral Density Filter includes front filter threads so you can attach additional ND filters or a protective lens cap.

Q: 7. Does this fits Tilta 4 x 5.65" Stackable Filter Tray Holder (BH #TIMBT16SFH)?

A: According to Tilta, the Mirage-system supports 2mm and 4mm filters like this Nano IRND 2.1 filter. The issue with your question, however, is that the stackable filter tray holder is not the device you need to hold the filter. You need TIMBT16SFT (stackable filter tray) AND TIMBT16SFH (stackable filter tray HOLDER) to work with the Mirage matte box.

Q: 8. How thick are these filters? I'm looking for one 4mm thick to fit my mattebox tray.

A: Yes, these filters are 4mm thick.

Q: 9. Is the gasket pre-installed?

A: Yes, the gasket is attached to the filter.

Q: 10. Would this pair well with the Nisi ND-Vario Pro Nano 1-5 stops, to create a variable 4-8 stops ND?

A: While the NiSi 72mm PRO Nano IRND 0.9 Filter (3-Stop) does have a front thread, it is not advisable to use two variable ND filters at the same time as it would create undesirable results.
