Now packed with 25 billion transistors, five billion more than M2, the Apple M3 integrates the CPU, GPU, Neural Engine, I/O, and more into a single system on a chip (SoC). Built with 3nm process technology, the Apple M3 Pro delivers the performance you need without sacrificing power efficiency. The 8-Core CPU features four performance cores and four efficiency cores, which is up to 35 percent faster than M1 for CPU performance. The M3 also supports up to 24GB of unified memory.
With an 8-Core GPU, the M3 features Dynamic Caching, which allocates the use of local memory in hardware in real time. Dynamic Caching only uses the exact amount of memory needed for each task, which dramatically increases the average utilization of the GPU, resulting in significant performance increases for the most demanding pro apps and games. Hardware-accelerated ray tracing has arrived for the Mac. Ray tracing models the properties of light as it interacts with a scene, allowing apps to create extremely realistic and physically accurate images. Additionally, the improved GPU brings hardware-accelerated mesh shading to the Mac, delivering greater capability and efficiency to geometry processing, and enabling more visually complex scenes in games and graphics-intensive apps.
The M3-equipped 24" iMac features a compact footprint and a slick side profile, measuring just 11.5mm thin.
The iMac features a 24" Retina Display with 500 nits of brightness. The Retina Display features a 4480 x 2520 resolution at 218 pixels per inch (ppi). It also supports the P3 wide color gamut, which features 25% more colors than the commonly used sRGB gamut, for even more vibrant greens and reds. The display is calibrated at the factory for accurate gamma, white point, and primary colors. The screen features an anti-reflective coating to reduce light glare.
With True Tone technology, the display and Touch Bar deliver a more natural viewing experience for design and editing workflows, as well as everyday tasks like browsing the web and writing email.
Thunderbolt 3 is a hardware interface that utilizes the reversible USB-C connector. Doubling the speed of its predecessor, Thunderbolt 3 features a maximum throughput of 40 Gb/s when used with compatible devices. The connector also supports USB4, allowing you to connect to more peripherals, including the Apple Pro Display XDR in full 6K resolution.
The iMac now features a Full HD 1080p FaceTime HD camera, allowing you to host video chats in high quality and provides optimal performance even in low light. The iMac takes advantage of the image signal processor in the M3 chip and the Neural Engine, enhancing camera image quality with better noise reduction, greater dynamic range, and improved auto exposure and white balance. No more grainy video chats for you, you'll be able to connect with friends and family in a high quality FaceTime call. The studio-quality three-mic array also provides clear calls and voice recordings, thanks to its noise reduction and directional beamforming.
The iMac has two pairs of force-cancelling woofers placed side by side for an impressive bass response, while reducing unintended vibrations. Each pair is balanced with a high-performance tweeter. The result is a six-speaker sound system that produces a sound stage with strong, articulate bass and clear mids and highs. All of these speaker innovations, coupled with advanced algorithms, enable iMac to support spatial audio when playing video with Dolby Atmos.
Related Questions and Answers
Q: 1. Are there any Imac pro owners who are editing 4k with gh5?what are the optimum specs for editing GH5 4K?thank you
A: Hey Kenny, I am editing 4k video from my Sony A7Sii with the new iMac Pro on FCPX 4.1. I don't have gh5. I got the maxed-out 16 processor system and I have not had any issues. I have background rendering selected and everything works smoothly. Best of luck!
Q: 2. Is there a way to order both the mouse and matching trackpad with the iMac Pro? I only see the mouse listed, and the trackpad is not listed in possible accessories.
A: If you wanted the trackpad, I would recommend ordering it separately. We will not be getting systems with both in the box.
Q: 3. what are the parts that can be upgraded later
A: I upgraded from a iMac (late 2012) to a iMac Pro (late 2017). I would recommend purchasing a fully loaded iMac Pro that will meet all your needs now, and in the distant future. From my research, once the iMac Pro is constructed, it is sealed in such a way that a authorized technician will be required to minimize any damage and put your warranty in jeopardy. It appears you can have RAM upgraded, but it is not as easy to install, as in previous model iMacs.
Q: 4. Has anyone edited with this machine with RED raw footage? Looking to upgrade and find minimum specs required to edit in 4k with 8k raw footage
A: All I do is edit on iMac Pro, both Raw and Pro Res. I have a 3.2 Intel Xeon Processor, 64 GB 2666 MHz DDR4, and the better Vega 64 Graphics Card. One thing I regret is not blowing out the memory. Although the Pro is faster than my 2013, it is definitely not the powerhouse it was cracked up to be. Unless you're doing straightforward cuts you will be waiting for effects to to render, even simple transitions. Overall I'm disappointed with the Pro, the price tag is high for a machine that is not as blazing fast as advertised. It does crash from time to time which I did not expect. When I have time I will contact apple and troubleshoot, there are bugs. Hope that helps.
Q: 5. What does AppleCare cost for these iMac Pros?
A: Apple care for the Imac pro will be $169
Q: 6. Is the RAM user upgradeable?
A: During these increased financial difficult times its causing me to contemplate going back to a PC
Q: 7. Can this be (pre)ordered with the Space Gray Trackpad 2 instead of the Space Gray Magic Mouse 2?
A: They don't allow for such an option at this time.
Q: 8. Are there known issues with the iMac Pro and the Logitech MX Master mouse?
A: No issues reported on our end.
Q: 9. Is the keyboard with numeric pad?
A: it is a standard apple keyboard with numeric pad (but wireless)
Q: 10. Can you upgrade the RAM yourself on the iMac Pro?
A: Probably not a good idea... I seen on the web where they used what looks like a small Pizza cutter to break the seal between the metal frame and the glass (don't even bother with the heating process). then I seen the dude handle the memory sticks without a grounding wrist band and a connector to ground. I worked in the computer industry for over 46 years, and what I saw could do more damage with ESD to the entire system. If you have the grounding system and really want to do this, then have at it with a great deal of caution. However, you could end up with a $5,000+ dead computer and I doubt that Apple will cover your loss...
