At less than a foot long, the 45° angled-viewing Kowa TSN-553 15-45x55 Spotting Scope is the ideal companion wherever you go to glass. It employs the ultra-low dispersion PROMINAR fluoride glass that eliminates chromatic aberrations that, when coupled with the fully multi-coated optics and two-speed focusing mechanism, produce bright and clear tack-sharp high-contrast images with accurate color rendition for an immersive observational experience. The impressive zoom range allows you to take in a wide field of view for general viewing purposes, with the ability to draw subjects in close for more detailed observations. This version of the TSN-550 is configured with the eyepiece set at a 45° angle relative to the optical tube to place your head in a comfortable viewing postion whether you're standing, sitting, or lying prone.

To reduce weight, without sacrificing strength or durability, the chassis is made of a polycarbonate material and wrapped in a slip-resistant armoring. A rubberized and textured zoom collar and focus wheel make adjustments fast and easy, even when wearing gloves. The optical tube is nitrogen filled and O-ring sealed to be waterproof and resistant to internal fogging when moving through extreme temperature changes or environmental conditions. To increase your mounting options, the TSN-553 comes outfitted with both a 1/4"-20 and 3/8"-16 tripod attachment—making it compatible with most photo, video, and field tripods on the market.

Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Looking for recommendations for a fluid head tripod that would be a good match for the M2 100mm spotting scope? Will use scope for both terrestrial and extra-terrestrial viewing.

A: Will you be hiking with the scope and tripod?

Q: 2. Does it come with Tripod mounting adaptor ? if not what adaptor is suitable for this scope?

A: It comes with a standard 1/4-20 threaded mount and a larger thread probably 5/16. I have never used the larger mount so not sure. main comment-make sure tripod is VERY rigid.

Q: 3. Can the 45 prism be changed?

A: NO, the 45 degree angled cannot be changed

Q: 4. Can this be mounted to a standard camera tripod?

A: Yes, the C70 spotting scope can be mounted to a standard tripod head.

Q: 5. c70 mini scope connect to a digital camera?

A: It is easy to connect a usb webcam though, eg Logitec.

Q: 6. Can we see the animal within 1000m or over 1000m clearly? What is the farthest distance from observer to animals?

A: I spent some time in Glacier National Park this summer and used this scope viewing Grizzly Bears, Black Bears Mountain Goats, Bighorn Sheep and Moose. Some were much less that 1000m and some were well over 1000m. away. The scope worked well and for the price I was very pleased.

Q: 7. Does it have a rotating tripod collar?

A: The Celestron Ultima 80 20-60x80mm Spotting Scope Kit does not have a rotating tripod collar.

Q: 8. How do you relate the magnification (in this case 16-48, as I understand it) to the specs of the Accessories Eyepieces? These are listed in mm, not magnification. Thanks

A: To calculate the magnification, simply divide the focal length of the scope (382mm) by the focal length of the eyepiece used. For example, if you used a 10mm eyepiece, you would have a magnification of 38x.

Q: 9. I have tried the following: Regal M2 - t-adapter ring - t-mount - EOS-MFor testing I used a focus target taped to a wall and found that: - when the centre of the frame is in focus, there is slight blurring toward the edges - there is very noticeable pincushion distortionI realize that this may not be critical when digiscoping wildlife.Do these issues always appear when using a t-mount to hold your camera sensor up to an eyepiece? Is it possible that switching to a better/different eyepiece will avoid these issues?

A: This is normal at times. It depends on the scope and how you are focusing in. The problem with switching the eyepiece you cannot thread the T-Adapter onto the eyepiece with the T-Ring. My apologies for this inconvenience. Also there might be some distortion because of the lighting?

Q: 10. what are the physical dimensions of the scope, max length and width and diameter?

A: Dimensions: L: 11.0" / L: 27.9 cm Weight: 2.0 lb / 910.0 g
