Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. What is the difference between MK1 and MK2 ?

A: The major difference is that the MK2 has Bluetooth 5.0 for more reliable monitoring and easier setup via phone or tablet. The battery life was also improved compared to the original. Aside from that it's identical to the old one.

Q: 2. If I have two cameras and an audio recorder, how many of TE2's do I need?

A: You need 1 for every device that does not have a time code input. If you are using cameras/audio recorders with a dedicated time code input you can use 1 Tentacle sync to sync multiple devices but you will need to resync all of your devices every few hours to make sure the time code does not drift.

Q: 3. Will these components come in a tentacle bag?

A: The Tentacle Sync E mkII Timecode Generator with Bluetooth 5.0 (Dual Set) kit does not include a bag. Q: 4. Can I sync Timecode with ths unit as a master with a BMPCC 6K Pro using a 3.5 mm cable?

A: Yes, the Tentacle Sync Sync E Mk2 Timecode Generator is able to pass time code to the Blackmagic Pocket Cinema 6K Camera using a 3.5mm cable. Please note that you will need to go into the menu of the Pocket Cinema 6K camera to enable this feature.

Q: 5. Is there a difference in range with this version and the previous version ?

A: For now, there won't be any changes in the Bluetooth range of the Tentacle SYNC E MkII compared to the MkI. The functionality will be identical with the previous version. Possibly in future, Tentacle will be able to offer an update that allows a wider range. Currently, the range is around 10-15 meters.

Q: 6. Is the 30 FPS limitation due to Bluetooth. Any updates coming for higher frame rates? Any work arounds for 60?

A: Set the frame rate to a multiple of the record frame rate on the camera (if you are shooting 60p, set the tentacle for 30p). The software for tentacle sync will automatically detect the difference. Q: 7. Can the Tentacle Sync E output timecode at the same time via cable and Bluetooth? if so, could I use a single unit to feed timecode into the audio input of my camera and simultaneously via Bluetooth into a Zoom F3 with its Bluetooth module?

A: The Tentacle Sync E mkII Timecode Generator with Bluetooth 5.0 (Single Set) (B&H# TETE1MK2) cannot output timecode by Bluetooth to the Zoom F3 2-Input / 2-Track Portable Field Recorder (B&H# ZOF3) but can do so as an audio input into one of the F3's two XLR ports using the Tentacle Sync Tentacle to 3-Pin Male XLR Cable (16") (B&H# TEC04): https://bhpho.to/3BL2sTF

Q: 8. I have a BMPCC 6k, a Ninja 5 hooked up to a monitor and a Zoom F6 sound recorder with bluetooth. Should I get two sync devices or three? I feel that the Zoom F6 can link up on it's own but I'm not certain.

A: The Tentacle Sync E mkII Timecode Generator with Bluetooth 5.0 (Dual Set) (B&H# TETE2MK2) is a set of two timecode generators. Once the two are connected to each other wirelessly and synchronized, each can feed timecode into a device. One timecode signal would need to be recorded with the video recorder, and the other with the audio recorder. Since you are apparently feeding HDMI (with embedded audio) from the BMPCC6K to a Ninja V, one timecode generator could be on either the BMPCC6K or the Ninja V. However, most people would connect it to the camera, and that is the surer option. The other timecode generator should be connected to the Zoom F6. You could use three, but there would be no benefit; Two is enough for your setup. As for a situation in which you'd want more than two, you would add one more timecode generator with each additional video or audio recording device you would use. So, one more with an additional camera or external video recorder, another one with an additional audio recorder, and so on.

Q: 9. Can MK1 and MK2 tentacle Syncs be mixed generating LTC for an audio recorder and multiple cameras?

A: With the Tentacle Sync E mkII Timecode Generator with Bluetooth 5.0 (Single Set) you can mix the MK1 and MK2.

Q: 10. Can I jam the timecode from other brand ? like ultrasync one

A: No, The two systems would not be compatible.
