Related Questions and Answers
Q: 1. Can I use these to generate timecode on iPhone 15 pro's? I take it I need one unit for each phone?Does it need to remain plug'd?
A: Yes, each device you would like accurate sync with should have a Tentacle Sync E mkII Timecode Generator connected to it. Leaving them connected would maintain accurate sync.
Q: 2. If I am using two RED Komodos and a MixPre-3 II simultaneously, can I get away with one unit?
A: Sure, you can use a single Tentacle Sync E mkII Timecode Generator with Bluetooth 5.0 (Single Set) to jam sync multiple devices.
Q: 3. Could I use a BNC cable, like the one linked below, to use this Tentacle Sync with a Sony FX6? I'm looking to find a way to use the FX6 without a top handle and still have an audio source. https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1327596-REG/tentacle_sync_c08_cable_tentacle_to.html
A: Yes, You can use the Sony FX6 time code port which is BNC with this cable. Good info from Tenticle sync - https://bit.ly/3qcTYih Also see page 7 #23 in the FX6 manual for the port location - https://bit.ly/3e6Rpv2
Q: 4. Can the bluetooth be used for syncing to bluetooth devices like the Zoom F2-BT?
A: Yes. But in order to do do the F2 Editor app is needed for time coding. Please review the following https://bit.ly/3LkEUr3
Q: 5. Will this sync a Sony FX3 Camera?
A: Yes, this will work with the Sony FX3. You will need to connect it with the 3.5 mm microphone input.
Q: 6. Did the mk1 version NOT have bluetooth or was it just an older version of BT? If so, what version of BT did mk1 have and what advantages does BT 5.0 allow over the older version?
A: MKi featured 4.2 MKii features 5.0 Bluetooth 5.0 offers faster speeds and more range then 4.2
Q: 7. Does this affect the audio I get through the MI shoe on a Sony A7SIII using the ECM-W2BT?
A: The Tentacle Sync E mkII Timecode Generator with Bluetooth 5.0 would use one channel of audio to record timecode info. Audio timecode is recorded on the left channel, while the scratch audio of the Sync E is recorded on the right channel. A solution like the Tentacle Sync E would be used for an external audio recorder, and you would not be recording audio in camera. The A7SIII has four audio channels to work with, so you should still be able to use your Hot Shoe mic. SONY A7SIII Audio channels: https://bit.ly/4984FH7
Q: 8. I have a BMPCC 6k, a Ninja 5 hooked up to a monitor and a Zoom F6 sound recorder with bluetooth. Should I get two sync devices or three? I feel that the Zoom F6 can link up on it's own but I'm not certain.
A: The Tentacle Sync E mkII Timecode Generator with Bluetooth 5.0 (Dual Set) (B&H# TETE2MK2) is a set of two timecode generators. Once the two are connected to each other wirelessly and synchronized, each can feed timecode into a device. One timecode signal would need to be recorded with the video recorder, and the other with the audio recorder. Since you are apparently feeding HDMI (with embedded audio) from the BMPCC6K to a Ninja V, one timecode generator could be on either the BMPCC6K or the Ninja V. However, most people would connect it to the camera, and that is the surer option. The other timecode generator should be connected to the Zoom F6. You could use three, but there would be no benefit; Two is enough for your setup. As for a situation in which you'd want more than two, you would add one more timecode generator with each additional video or audio recording device you would use. So, one more with an additional camera or external video recorder, another one with an additional audio recorder, and so on.
Q: 9. Is there a difference in range with this version and the previous version ?
A: For now, there won't be any changes in the Bluetooth range of the Tentacle SYNC E MkII compared to the MkI. The functionality will be identical with the previous version. Possibly in future, Tentacle will be able to offer an update that allows a wider range. Currently, the range is around 10-15 meters.
Q: 10. Can it be powered with external dc input?
A: It is charged by micro USB. You can continuously power the Tentacle Sync via the USB port to an portable battery bank.
