Ultracompact and rugged, the 12G-SDI to HDMI 2.0 Converter with Audio Extender from Muxlab enables you to link SDI cameras or computers to HDMI or SDI displays or components in a variety of environments, such as broadcasting, imaging, and events. This compact converter has one 12G-SDI input and one HDMI 2.0 output, and it also features a 12G-SDI loop output. A 3.5mm stereo analog output allows you to extract audio from the embedded input to speakers or a mixer.

Q: 1. Can the audio be embedded to the HDMI output?

A: Whatever audio is on the SDI line will output over the HDMI. If you are looking to combine a video source with a different audio source you will want an audio to SDI miniconverter which allows you to embed up to 8 channels of audio onto a SDI line. You could then feed that SDI line into a SDI to HDMI miniconverter.

A: Yes you can.

Q: 3. Hello, I’m using (2) Sony FS7 cameras and would like to convert them from 23.98 PSF to 1080i. Would I need 2 units?

A: Yes, two individual DECIMATOR MD-Cross V2 Miniature HDMI/SDI Cross Converters would be required to handle more than one signal at a time. If it was one signal and you split the output, this would only require one.

Q: 4. Is this unit compatible with the Blackmagic Decklink Quad card?

A: I can't think of any reason why this wouldn't work.

Q: 5. Can this downscale 4k DCI (through 6G SDI) into 1080p (through HDMI)? It says it can downscale UHD (3840x2160), but can it also do 4K DCI (4096x2160)?

A: Yes, it will do that but the max frame rate for DCI 4K is 24p. Max UHD is 30p.

Q: 6. Does this work with 4K signals or just 1080P?

A: No. 3G Sdi only. Use Freak Show for 4K

Q: 7. I see that it will downconvert to 1080p on the HDMI output when a non-4k device is connected, but will the SDI output still be 4k in this case? Looking for simultaneous 4k SDI out for recording and 1080p HMDI out to ATEM Mini

A: If the main stream is 4k over SDI the output of the converter will be setup to what the receiver, lcd or recorder wants. As long as the recorder is setup to receive and communicate to the converter it wants 4k that’s what will be available.

Q: 8. Does this item have FCC approval?

A: Only the power supply has a UL listing, I could not find any FCC claims. Though, it is shielded and it does not transmit or Receive RF over the air. Have not had any issues with these converters.

Q: 9. Can this be used to convert from HDMI to SDI ? (from a sony mirrorless camera to the mixer)

A: Hi, If your audio mixer (or do you mean video switcher?) accepts SDI connections, then yes, this would work.

Q: 10. does it come with a power supply?

A: Yes it does. This includes a 12V Power Supply with International Socket Adapters.

Put this to work on a Canon 7D Mark II with a 100-400 IS USM. I only tracked one bird in flight, the rest were still shots. The auto-focus was fast and sharp. 5

Didn't notice much of a change at all to the focusing speed when coupled with my 70-200 f/4! GREAT IMAGE! 5

I am happy with this purchase so far. It works as expected, and I don't see picture quality degradation except the added stop (increase in maximum available aperture). I use it with EF 100-400 f/4.5-5.6 lens and the extender transforms it into 140-560 f/6.3-8, again as expected. Autofocus works fine with this lens, because maximum aperture doesn't exceed 8 (I think with Extender 2X there would be a problem). Item quality is good as well, made in Japan, not from any grey market. 5

I replaced my damaged version of this item. I put the replacement through the rounds and as Canon Extenders always seem to be it is tack sharp and I cannot really see any loss of quality. And with the high quality digital sensors, the loss of a small amount of light seems trivial compared to the gains. 5

I am wildlife photographer, previously I own 2.0 EF extender II, that piece for me was to slow and without sharp output, almost never used in the field! After long studying I decided to get that piece of beauty .... First thing when I got it I put on my 70-200mm f /2.8, it work quick and flawlessly , Was very excited to try on my 600mm f /4 works quick , with almost not different in quality and with outstanding output GREAT PIECE!!! Once installed on my 600 I never took it off, now with reach of 840 mm on F/5.6 I can reach wildlife from distance without disturbing them and get awesome quality shots, great job canon engineers !!! 5

I am using the extender with a Canon 400mm F5.6 and the images seem just as sharp as with the extender. The lens isn't' Tack sharp if viewed at 100%, but it is more than sharp enough at normal viewing. 5
