The silver m905 Analog from Grace Design is a reference monitor controller designed to deliver mastering-quality monitoring to your home or professional studio. The system features a Remote Control Unit (RCU) and an Analog Control Unit (ACU) that connects via the included Cat5 cable. The RCU features a color graphical LCD display and dedicated tactile control over all functions that allows you to switch between a variety of input sources.

The ACU houses all analog connections including two pairs of balanced XLRs and one pair of unbalanced RCA inputs, as well as a balanced 1/4" headphone output. Additionally, the unit has three stereo pairs of balanced speaker outputs with two assignable mono sub outputs, giving you a versatile selection of monitoring options when mixing or mastering.

Note: The headphone output on the RCU is inoperable with the included Cat5 cable. A 25' serial cable is available as an upgrade, which allows the RCU headphone port to be fully functional.

Q: 1. Is this the older model that comes in a silver box or the newer one that comes in a black box?

A: it came with a black box

Q: 2. What about an Apollo Twin Duo? Can I get the benefit of a mic preamp, or are only the apollo's own presets available to me?

A: This interface offers: 2 Unison Mic Preamps, 1 Hi-Z Input Using the emulations is optional: The interface features two XLR-1/4" mic/line combo inputs and a 1/4" Hi-Z input, all with Unison integration for precise UAD emulations of classic analog preamps—impart vintage character of your choosing on microphone and instrument recordings while bypassing the unpredictable nature of old equipment.

Q: 3. Dangerous Music CONVERT-8. Does it works under Windows?

A: Yes. There is a Windows USB driver available for download on the Dangerous Music website.

Q: 4. Made in China or Germany?

A: The Sennheiser HD 650 was manufactured in Romania.

Q: 5. Hi I have apollo twin x (Quad) and i have buy preamp GRACE m101 . Should I have Converter between these two equipment? If yes What is it the best converter for voiceover and for this equipment??

A: A converter is not necessary. Simply come out of the 1/4-inch TRS balanced output to the 1/4-inch portion of the combo input of the Apollo Twin X Quad. It is important to send the signal into the Apollo as a line level signal, to take advantage of the Grace preamp.. A Pearstone PM-TRS 1/4" TRS Male to 1/4" TRS Male Interconnect Cable (6'),BH #PEPMTRS06 would be a good choice for a balanced cable.

Q: 6. Can the word clock input receive timecode from a Deity TC-1?

A: No, the word clock input on the Dangerous Music CONVERT-8 Reference-Grade Digital-to-Analog Converter cannot receive timecode from a Deity TC-1 Timecode Generator Box. Word clock and timecode serve different purposes. Word clock is used to keep a perfectly timed and constant bitrate to avoid timing errors that can cause data transmission errors while timecode provides metadata about the media data being transmitted.

Q: 7. How many speakers come in box

A: That price is for one monitor.

Q: 8. How do you plug this into your MacBook Pro for listening to music? My late-2013 MBP does not have a "mini-USB" port. Thank you for your help!

A: The connection to your Macbook would be USB-A, the Micro-USB 2.0 connector is on the Grace Design m900 DAC. 2 USB 2.0 Type A Male to Micro Type B Male Cables are include in the box.

Q: 9. External DAC drive these like Cambridge, well I still need a headphone amp?

A: If the DAC can handle 300-600 ohm headphones, then you would not need amp amp.

Q: 10. How is the comfort level for eyeglass wearers?

A: The headphones are very comfortable on their own and can wear them for hours. But I do find them pressing on my plastic frame glasses annoying. You will feel the eyeglass stems pressing against you. If you adjust the headphones on your head if will also adjust your glasses on your nose at the same time. I do without the glasses and just enjoy the music.

I am well pleased with the Grace Design m101 mic preamp. I recorded vocals & guitar using the AKG C3000 through the Grace Design m101 then into my Apogee A/D converters. WOW! The m101 is certainly the most transparent mic preamp, in the price range, that I have heard. The signal to noise ratio on this unit is extremely high. I did a recording in a noisy room, using the microphone close to sound source and the recorded signal had very little ambient noise. Moreover, the signal that I captured through m101 sounded clean and full. It accurately represented the sound source.

I use these with MXL 603s's. Now it's time to look into better mics and a sound-insulated room. I tried no mics and got much much less noise, then 100 ohms across the signal pins and got even less noise. Didn't measure the noise; merely listening, with headphones, to the output amplified by a Panasonic HDC-Z10000. I like the idea of the rotary switch, instead of a pot, for the gain control. It has a pot for the trim control, so it has the best of both worlds. Construction is very good with high-quality connectors and controls. It's pretty cool to have a five-year transferable warranty.
