Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Can this microphone screw into a tripod 1/4 20 thread?

A: Yes - the 1/4 -20 female bushing is located on the bottom of the cold shoe mounting foot.

Q: 2. Will this mic work with a Canon Rebel T5?

A: The Canon EOS Rebel T5 does not offer an external microphone input jack. So no, this microphone, or any other, may not be connected.

Q: 3. Will this work on Canon R6 Mk II? Can it be used off camera or it has to mounted on camera?

A: Yes, the Rode VideoMic Camera-Mount Shotgun Microphone is compatible for use with the Canon EOS R6 Mark II Mirrorless Camera. The microphone can be used on or off of the camera.

Q: 4. Is the mic compatible with the Panasonic HC-V770?

A: Yes, they are compatible. You will just want to get a mount of some kind because the camera's show mount will not work with the mount on the mic. https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1472520-REG/vello_cb_550_dual_shoe_bracket.html

Q: 5. Is this compatible with Canon Rebel T3i and with Canon 70D? Also, while connected, does it cancel the camera's audio or does it record 2 audio channels into the SD card? Is the sound then recorded together with the image or on two separate memories/folders?

A: Yes, it is compatible with the T3i and 70D. While connected, the camera's internal audio is cancelled. So be careful...if the mic is plugged in but it's power is turned off, the only audio you'll get is a low hiss. Upon recordings, the audio is automatically synced with the video into a single .MOV file.

Q: 6. Is there a recommended travel case for this mic? I haven't been able to find any zipper like cases to keep it protected while in the camera bag.

A: You may be able to use a padded bag like the K-Tek KGBM1 Medium Gizmo Bag (B&H # KTKGBM1) or perhaps something like the Ruggard Lens Case 6 x 4.5" (B&H # RULCY16X4) or the larger models. As long as the mic will fit, it should provide the protection you need.

Q: 7. I bought the wrong mic for my canon vixia hf g10, is this mic comparable with my camera?

A: The Rode VideoMic with Rycote Lyre Suspension System is compatible with the Canon Vixia HFG-10.

Q: 8. I am starting to do interview type video and want to improve my sound. Will I be able to use this mic on my 5DIV's and also on a boom placed over the subject or would I be better off buying a lapel mic?

A: A boom mic, such as this model, is usually considered the best option for audio quality of your productions, especially if you do boom the mic in close to the subject. The Rode VideoMic & Micro Boompole Kit with Custom Windbuster, BH #ROVMRK4 would provide you with the cable extension required, as well as an outdoor windscreen at a reasonable bundle price.

Q: 9. Can you use and graphic equalizer with this receiver?

A: Yes. There is an output (Audio 4) allowing an external device, such as a graphic EQ to be connected and returned on 'Audio 4" input.

Q: 10. In addition to my last question, my mic and boompole (which come from the same kit) do not mount properly either. I was wondering what I am doing wrong?

A: On the boom pole at the top there should be a male threaded piece. If you turn the Rode Video Mic upside down and look in the bottom of the shoe mount you will see a hole. That hole is 3/8 and it will screw onto the end of the male thread on the end of the boom pole which is also 3/8. I hope this helps.
