The filter's coloring is densest at the edge and tapers to clear by the middle, with a soft-edged transition between the density and clear areas. The 1 color density provides less tangerine coloration than the 2 density filter.

This filter is made using ColorCore technology, a process that involves laminating the filter substrate between 2 pieces of optical glass and grinding flat to a tolerance of 1/10,000th of an inch. It measures 2 x 3" / 50.8 x 76.2mm.

A: The quality of the glass in the SP 150-60mm Di VC USD is phenomenal. Mine is tack sharp to the point that I am hand holding it while shooting birds in the Spring. The only differences that I see are that they've improved the auto focus a little and weather sealed the unit better. I've gotten my lens a little wet, (not drenched), and it fared just fine. I've found zero issues with the auto focus. I'd probably save the money and get the cheaper lens as I don't see enough to make me spend the extra $$ to get the generation 2 lens.
