The Titan HD Extract option allows you to take one camera to a shoot and obtain three separate recordings (plus a live switch between the three images). This feature can add a multi-cam look to single-camera shoots without the expense of multiple cameras or recorders. One view is an HD downscale/super-sample of the full image area, and two views are windows selected from the full image area. These views can be panned smoothly through the 4K field, and the three views can be Live-Switched. All four HD views (The master/wide, the two windowed views, and the live-swtiched/program) can be recorded simultaneously in Apple ProRes with matching timecode and file names.

The following features have been added to the Odyssey 7Q+ with the release of firmware update 2016.1:

  • SDI inputs now support 6G-SDI in addition to 3G-SDI.

  • 4K@60 can be recorded to Apple ProRes 422.

  • The Odyssey now supports 4K@30 from Blackmagic Design cameras.

  • Record 4:4:4 2K and HD video signals in 10- & 12-bit Apple ProRes 4444 or 4444(XQ). This supports many cameras, including Sony F3/F5/F23/F35/F55, Canon C300 Mark II/C500, Panasonic HPX3100, and more. (The HD or 2K input stream must be video, not raw, to use the Apple ProRes 4444 modes at this time.)
  • View two HD video signals while recording one in Apple ProRes

  • Spot Meter - advanced monitoring tool - comprehensive exposure meter

  • Additional & improved Preset LUTs

New and improved LUTs for Canon C-Log, C-Log2, and Panasonic V-Log

  • FS7/FS700 2K HS RAW->2K Apple ProRes: Capture 2K Apple ProRes 422, up to 240 fps from the FS700 or FS7 camera with the XDCA Expansion unit. (Requires optional Odyssey Raw Bundle)

  • Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Will the Odyssey7Q show the camera menu of the Canon C200 and provide the same menu functionality in controlling the camera?

A: Dear Frank, .. The Odyssey7Q+ can't control the C200. HD-SDI is one way, from the camera to the Odyssey7Q+. Respectfully, .. Dan Keaton ..Convergent Design

A: The Odyssey7Q+, with our Raw Bundle, which is available at extra cost, supports recording 4K Raw from the C500, up to 60 fps.If the 4K Raw to 4K Apple ProRes 422 mode is used, then the limit is 30 fps.

    Q: 3. 60fps recording?

A: Yes, the Odyssey7Q+ offers 60fps recording in several modes.- From HD, UHD and 4K video sources over SDI.- From HD sources over HDMI.- From HD & 2K sources in 4:4:4.With the RAW Bundle activated:- From ARRI ALEXA Classic in 16x9 (RAW recording)- From Canon C500 (RAW recording)- From Indiecam GS2K (RAW recording)- From IO Industries IO4K & IO2K (RAW recording)- From Panasonic VariCam LT (RAW recording)- From Sony FS5/FS7/FS7-II/FS700 (RAW & ProRes recording)

Q: 4. Hi, is the Convergent Design Odyssey7Q+ OLED Monitor & Recorder good option for 4k recorder with a Sony FS700? Thank you!

A: The Odyssey 7Q+ is compatible with the Sony FS700 for recording 4K footage.

Q: 5. Hi. can you tell me if this device has a battery and if has how much it will last?Thank you

A: No battery. Uses external power. You can buy a battery plate from Convergent Designs or other sources.

Q: 6. What comes included in the box at this time? SSD's, power cable,hood-man, carrying case? What?!

A: As shown on the Convergent Design website and noted in the downloadable manual, the Odyssey7Q+ box currently ships with the following inside:- Odyssey7Q+- Universal AC power supply- short UltraThin 3G-SDI cable- short HDMI cable- 5x SSD mounting handles- SATA to USB3 adapter- Carved foam cutout for Odyssey

    Q: 7. It's Media included?

A: As of right now, two 2.5 256GB SSD drives from Convergent Design are included with this recorder in the box.

Q: 8. will the 7q+ record 4k from the sony fs700 HDMI output?

A: 3G/HD-SDI (BNC connector), sends 4K/2K 12-Bit RAW data to HXR-IFR5 Interface Unit and the HDMI will output 1080p for the Odyssey to record. For 4K recording it would be better to use HXR-IFR5 interface and AXS-R5 recorder.

Q: 9. does this have HDR?

A: Not as far as I am aware. HDR is not related to recording - it is related to the monitor being able to present a very wide range of exposures. From 1000 NITS and higher. Monitors that can present HDR are very expensive at the moment.

Q: 10. Is there a way to turn on a center crosshair?

A: Yes, up to four custom frame guides can be programmed, and they along with one of the presets can be overlapped if desired. A custom frame line can be positioned to the vertical and horizontal center, creating a crosshair. Another solution is to make a dot or small box at the frame center, which is my personal preference.

I bought this recorder with the RAW bundle pack for my FS700. After reading online for weeks, I couldnt find any new articles or instructions (being my camera is an older model) and I wanted it set-up correctly at the best quality obtainable.

One email to Convergent Design and the Director of Sales and Marketing, Dan, responded and called me the next day. Mind you it was a Saturday. He took time out of his weekend to explain to me exactly what I could do with this recorder and my FS700, plus all of the capabilities. After using the knowledge he gave me I shot a project with this set-up and its a GAME CHANGER.

I can tell you with 100% confidence - if youre looking for a powerful recorder regardless of your camera, there is no better option than the Odyssey 7Q+ from image quality to customer care.

I use this for a variety of applications. From shooting 4K green screen interviews from my Sony A7s to capturing multi-cam presentations in HD to recording screen capture demonstrations from my client's laptops (preventing the need to purchase and install capture software for every new demonstration). Having versatile tools is important for me and the Odyssey 7Q+ has already become very useful in several different applications. This justifies its higher cost over the Atomos Shogun. Overall I think it's a better value for my needs. What I like about this recorder is the easy to use menu system with accessible buttons along the edges of the screen. This makes finding the different tools simple and intuitive. Utilizing the multiple inputs or the Titan HD Extract option has been very useful for shooting presentations. I also like the CD-Transfer_v3.0 software for making offloading the footage files simple and reliable.

I have had a 7Q for about a year and this device has been terrific, no problems at all. I have taken delivery of a 7Q+ and the same goes for it. With the additional (2) Free 256 SSD's, there is really no reason not to own one.

This is my second monitor, due to an accident damaging the other. I tried out the atomos shogun 7, but half the features aren't enabled yet (which they don't tell you), and overall, it just isn't as powerful, quiet, and energy efficient as the Odyssey 7Q.
I've been using the 7Q for 5 years now paired with an FS700, and it's just a dream. The monitor itself is so crisp, nailing focus is cake. The processed files are a joy to grade (mainly using proress hq), and the unlimited LUT storage is great. So many positives with this unit. 10/10 bought again.

I purchased one for work and I liked it so much I bought one for myself. I've used this with both the Sony FS5 and Sony A7s. Both to record 4K ProRes. I really like waveform overlay and false color tools. I only wish it had a second HDMI input.
I recommend understanding and using the CD-Transfer software when offloading SSDs. It's not complicated. Also be sure to do a safe eject when removing the SSDs.

Ive used CD products for years but I recently started with a production co that has 3 in rotation. we abuse all three of these units daily and they have performed flawlessly. Yes, to fully utilize the raw recording and multi channel record you must buy other licenses. we did make the investment and given the value added to our shoots, it was a great investment. without the licenses this is still a fantastic recorder and a great tool for getting the image you want. loading luts is super simple and the menu systems/ui is intuitive. On top of all of this the customer support has been superb. recently on location we needed help with a software issue at the 11th hour and Dan from CD saved our butts!!

I been meaning to write this review for a while about my experience with Odyssey 7Q+.   I have been using the odyssey 7Q+ since March of 2016 with FS700, as stated in other reviews the footage it delivers looks great and brought new life to the FS700.   The monitor and its monitoring  tools also perform well.   What has really impressed me about the 7Q+ is Convergents support.   Before I made the purchase, I spoke to Dan at several of the broadcast shows.   Plus, I spoke with him of the phone – that kind of support and information is priceless to me.   Ultimately, I made up my mind to choose convergent design over the other products out there.  While it is an excellent monitor/recorder; convergent designs  support is second to none, It is one of the best CS/Tech support in the professional broadcast industry.  Should I have a question or an issue – 98% of the time I can speak to Dan and or Jim.   Dan will also answer on the weekends.   It is just a pleasure to do business with them.

I will also say that BHs support has also been great as well; in helping me get the most out of the 7Q+.
