Clearly distinguished by its bright maximum aperture, the Canon EF 50mm f/1.2L USM is a normal-length L-series prime also sporting a robust physical design and advanced optical layout. The impressively fast f/1.2 maximum aperture affords a great degree of control over depth of field for isolating subjects and producing desirable selective focus effects. Complementing these qualities is a sophisticated optical composition, which includes one aspherical element to suppress spherical aberrations in order to achieve notable sharpness and clarity. A Super Spectra coating has also been applied to limit flare and ghosting and promote greater contrast and color accuracy in a variety of lighting conditions. Complementing the imaging attributes, a ring-type USM is employed to deliver quick and quiet autofocus performance along with full-time manual focus control.

Normal-length prime is designed for full-frame Canon EF-mount DSLRs, however can also be used with APS-C models where it provides an 80mm equivalent focal length.

Exceptionally bright f/1.2 maximum aperture affords extensive control over depth of field for selective focus applications and also benefits working in low-light situations.

One aspherical element helps to suppress spherical aberrations and distortion for a high degree of sharpness and accurate rendering.

Super Spectra coating has been applied to individual elements to minimize ghosting and flare for greater contrast and color neutrality when working in strong lighting conditions.

A ring-type Ultrasonic Motor (USM), along with optimized focusing algorithms and a high-speed CPU, is employed to deliver fast, precise, and quiet autofocus performance as well as full-time manual focus override.

Rounded eight-blade diaphragm contributes to a pleasing out of focus quality that benefits the use of shallow depth of field and selective focus techniques.

As a member of the esteemed L-series, this lens is sealed against dust and moisture for working in inclement environmental conditions.

A: Yes, that lens will work on the T3i without any issues.

Q: 4. Which is better for portraits? The 50mm 1.4 or the 50mm1.8?

Q: 9. I got a canon EOS rebel sl1 camera and what lens should I buy for sports photography

A: Charlie, it depends on your budget and whether or not you want/need a zoom vs a prime. This lens is a pretty fast prime (1.4), so it does pretty well in low light, but it isn't a zoom, so your feet will be your zoom. If you gave a bit more money in your budget, a good used 70-200 L or 24-105 L might be a strong starting point for you. However, if you need to stay sub 400.00, this 50, an 85mm or an EFS 18-135 are decent performers. As you progress with indoor sports photography, you might find yourself moving up to a full frame camera and faster (2.8, etc.) L glass. Good luck, and like they say, the most important gear is behind the viewfinder.

Q: 10. Is this lens compatible with the EOS M3?

A: All EF lens are compatible with Canon full frame senor EOS cameras. I use this lens on a 5d mkIII.......You need to check the Canon website for compatibility for the M3.

I am a news photographer, and i tend to use the 50mm lens alot - be it for news or portraits. This lens is just what you'd expect when you pay this kind of money. It is a product that was brought to perfection in every aspect. The bokeh, the focus accuracy and speed, the build, contrast, color reproduction - everything is there. If you are a professional, look no further. Leaps and bounds better than the 50mm f1.4 which I also own.

I have rented this lens about a million times before I was finally able to buy it. I feel like I know this lens like the back of my hand. I have also rented the 1.4 as well to compare the two. I do really like the 1.4 but nothing compares to the L glass and amazing bokeh and colors of the 1.2. If u r on the fence, take the plunge, you won't regret it. Super sharp and fast in low light.

I finally save up enough money to get this amazing lens! I have the 50mm 1.8 and have been happy with it for a few years now. I was ready to take my small portrait photography business to the next level by investing in this 50mm 1.2L lens. I am so glad I did. My images have improved ten-fold in terms of clarity, beautifully smooth bokeh, and consistent output. It is a must-have lens in my opinion if you are a portrait or wedding photographer.

This is a beautiful and versatile lens. The wide aperture makes for great photos in any lighting situation. The bokeh it produces is perfect. It takes a bit of practice focusing just right. When paired with the 5d Mark II, it's just wonderful!

I came to Canon after selling my Nikon gear (D3s, 1.4G primes etc) and giving Leica a test run for a few months. Canon's 50mm 1.2L is a fantastic lens for the money. This lens on a Canon 5D2 is a great all day walk around combo. I cannot say anything else that has not already been said. Buy this lens, you will love it.
