Q: 2. I recently purchased the SONY PXW-X70 PROFESSIONAL XDCAM CAMCORDER. It comes with an XLR handle with microphone holder, but no mic. Is this the right one to pair with it? Are there other (better) options? I want to outfit the camera right. Thanks.

A: I purchased this microphone over a year ago for my PD150; and I've been very happy with it's performance and ease of use.

Q: 3. Does it work with UWP-D11 devices?

A: Yes, the ECM-X7BMP is compatible for use with UWP-D11 transmitters.

Q: 4. Confused about correct MS config: The manual says white plug is channel 1 and red plug channel 2. But Sony product photos with camcorder show other way around. Which one is correct? I do not get proper stereo image when decoding mid side.

A: The XLR connectors for the Sony ECM-MS2 Stereo Electret Condenser Microphone are marked in different colors to indicate left and right. The red connector is for the right channel and the white connector is for the left channel. Channel 1 on the camera is typically for the left and channel 2 on the camera is typically for the right.

Q: 5. Does it fixes on sony utx b2 uhf synthesized transmitter?

A: The Sony ECM-X7BMP features a 3.5mm locking connector compatible with the Sony UTX-B2 transmitter as well as other UWP series transmitters.

Q: 6. I need record interview in a big studio that have many echo and air conditioner sound, this mic is better for this situation?

A: This mic will help you battle the AC and echo, I use it in factories to dampen some of the machine noise, which it does.

Q: 7. Is this microphone works with Sony pxw-fs5m2

A: Yes. This microphone will let you record stereo audio into the camera.

Q: 8. According to other Q&A's, this mic is not compatible with other setups. Dare I ask why? Seems a standard TRS setup should work?

A: Sony uses a different wiring scheme and locking connector than other manufacturers of 3.5mm microphones. Most 3.5mm microphones use what we would call the "Sennheiser" style of wiring, which is more or less the universal standard. Sony is the exception, and only mics specifically wired for Sony systems will work with them - ergo, Sony-wired mics will only work with Sony systems.

Q: 9. what is the main difference between ECM-MS2 and ECM-VG1?

A: The ECM-MS2 has Stereo (M-S) and Mono capabilities, and the ECM-VG is Mono only. The ECM-MS2 is much shorter in length ( 5.5"), making it more suitable for placing on a smaller camera and the ECM-VG is over 8" in length. Both of these microphones require phantom power (40-52 V DC).

Q: 10. Will this mic work with other transmitter packs other than sony? Looking for a cardioid lapel mic for Saramonic packs.

A: The Sony ECM-X7BMP will only work with the Sony UWP wireless systems. We currently do not carry any cardioid lavaliers for saramonic wireless packs. As the brand gains popularity, it is possible other manufacturers may decide to make a solution for saramonic transmitters.
