The XR315 Surge Eliminator/Power Conditioner from SURGEX is a 120V/15A AC power unit incorporating SurgeX

Advanced Series Mode power conditioning and surge protection. The 1RU steel enclosure is designed to be installed in a 19" equipment rack, or placed on a

flat surface. A total of eight 120V receptacles are provided on the rear panel. The XR315 incorporates SurgeX ICE Inrush Current Elimination circuitry.

The front panel houses a two-line back-lit LCD display which provides status information in

normal use and allows interaction with menu items during programming. The character display

intensity is adjusted by either a rotary dimmer knob or a push-button On/Off switch. The

front panel features two screwdriver-accessible rotary encoders which are used to step through and

select from a menu of items to determine the operation of the unit. The power button, when

pressed, causes the unit to power up or power down. This button can be disabled if not required.

The LED incorporated into the button indicates the status of the unit. When the LED is off the

unit is fully powered down; when it is on the unit is fully powered up; when it is flashing the unit

is in the process of powering up or down.

A built-in AC voltmeter indicates the line voltage on the LCD display. The internal voltmeter is

a peak reading type which was chosen because most electronic equipment incorporates a power

supply that charges mostly during the AC peaks. Monitoring the peak of the AC provides a more

useful indication of the real voltage available to the electronic equipment plugged into the

XR315. A built-in AC ammeter indicates the total current consumption of connected equipment on the

LCD display. The internal ammeter is also a peak reading type. A calculation of the total power being delivered to connected equipment is displayed on the

second line of the LCD display. Power is calculated as the product of the line voltage and total

current draw, and is displayed with the unit Watts "W".

The XR315 is microprocessor controlled and designed to be versatile and expandable. Two or

more XR315 units can be connected together to provide control and power conditioning for larger

systems. The XR315 can also control other SurgeX products with its auxiliary relay contacts

and/or its 12VDC output. All options are set via the front panel and all connections are made at

the rear panel. All set-up information is stored in non-volatile memory.

A plug-in Phoenix terminal block on the rear panel accommodates the remote control

connections and also the low-voltage outputs. There are three inputs which control power state;

one programmable 12VDC output; and one programmable auxiliary relay providing normally open

contacts. The inputs can be controlled by an applied DC voltage from 5V to 30V, by a

contact closure, or by different types of switch; the input selection being made during

programming. The inputs and 12VDC output are designed to withstand incorrect connections

including polarity reversal and shorts.

Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. What’s a safe extension cord for this? I only need two more feet!

A: You can use the Hosa Technology Extension Cable with IEC Female Connector - 18 AWG, Black, 3' (B&H # HOPC183) or Watson 18 AWG Universal Power Cord - NEMA 5-15P to IEC C13, Black, 3' (B&H # WAPC183B).

Q: 2. Can the M-8Lx work on 220 VAC? It seems it's only wired for 120V...

A: Maximum continuous operating voltage: 130 VAC RMS

Q: 3. Is this classified as a good surge protector? The rating of 170 joules seem to be on a low side of recommended range between 200 to 400 joules. Any thoughts?

A: Furman makes a quality product. This would be considered an entry level product for non-critical applications.

Q: 4. can the rack ears be removed from the front faceplate, or are they built in?

A: not on the ones I have; the rack ears are a part of the front faceplate

Q: 5. Why is it recommended to put this at the top of a rack? I'd like to keep my Blackmagic monitor on top for visibility, and have this at the bottom, under an ATEM and Hyperdeck.

A: It is recommend to position the power conditioner on top, to dissipate heat better.

Q: 6. is it 120v ??

A: Yes

Q: 7. I'm building a new house and will have the house mostly wired. Will this unit benefit me than an ordinary power outlet strip, in my rack, vs. a non-conditioned power strip?

A: Yes, This unit will help. I am a musician and we sometimes play in old buildings with dirty electricity. Played twice in the same old building: once without the unit and once with it. This unit eliminated most of the unwanted noise and interference caused by the less than satisfactory power source.I also have one in my home studio. It makes my power smooth, even and quiet. I plug surge protectors into the unit and then the equipment into the surge protectors.

Q: 8. How long is the cord?

A: The power cord is five feet in length.

Q: 9. Is this rated for 240v ?

A: Hi the furmen M-8X2 does not work on 220 V i dont think furmen makes a unit like that the M-8X2 is made to work on 110 to 120 V thankyou the M-8X2 works very welland is a grate unit

Q: 10. Does this also serve as a battery backup? If not, is there similar Furman product that does this plus battery backup?

A: This item does not have a battery backup. This unit below will provide a battery backup: https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/616228-REG/Furman_F1000_UPS_F1000_UPS_Uninterruptible_Power_Supply.html/specs?sts=pi&pim=Y

Sleek no frills unit. Single power / reset on the front. 8 Plugs on the rear with plenty of space for 4 wall-warts and 4 single plugs, total 8. Not much more to say other than it works...and a good price. Me and ART go back to the late 80's...I have other ART products in my home VO studio as well...all still going strong.

So I've read many articles and seen the videos about AC filters and wires so I knew something was going to happen to improve the AC signal going into my gear and that there would be an improvement in my instruments sound. But how much? Yeah I could hear the difference in my modest house in the burbs. If there was that much improvement in the fairly clean A/C power in the burbs then I'll be very pleased when at a venue and I get the same sound improvements there with much dirtier power going into it. Now I've also read the negative reviews of these types of filters. I'll say this....you have to have some discerning ears and some dirty power to hear the improvements with this unit. If your neighborhood has clean power you might not hear any improvement. But when at a gig and there is less than ideal (dirty) power you'll be very thankful.

Before buying the Furman P-1800 PF R, I would always have nights where my guitar amp just didn't sound right. Varying electrical sources were killing the amp tone. This unit has eliminated this headache completely. The headroom and bite is steady and consistent now. You spend a lot on your musical gear. This helps you get the performance AND protection your gear needs.

It's true to it's name. I connected six electronic devices to this unit on a single old wall socket that was pretty ify with what seemed to be low uneven output. After plugging this unit in and connecting the devices they all work great now with no humming noise or low power readings
