This 410 3-Way, Geared Pan-and-Tilt Head from Manfrotto has a load capacity of 11.0 lb and can be attached to tripods or other support systems that feature a 3/8"-16 mount. It includes an integrated RC4 quick release cam lock and a 410PL Quick Release Plate. RC4 compatible quick release plates such as the 410PL can removed from the head by pulling the cam lock's spring-loaded lever, which also allows the plate to be instantly reattached.

Cameras or accessories that are compatible with a 1/4"-20 or 3/8-16" mount can be connected to the 410PL Quick Release Plate, which measures 2.5 x 3.3 x 0.5" and has a rubberized, non-slip surface. The head can be rotated 360°, tilted 90° forwards or 30° backwards, as well as 90° sideways for portrait orientation. Each of these three movements function independently of each other and have individual, snap-lock knobs with easy-to-turn, 4-star grips. Turning each snap-lock knob allows the corresponding movement to be rapidly adjusted, and once the knob is released, the adjustment is locked into place. An additional, rubberized knob set within each snap-lock knob allows incremental, geared adjustments, which help to ensure that any device mounted to this 410 3-Way, Geared Pan-and-Tilt Head is precisely positioned relative to the subject.

To further promote fast and repeatable device positioning, this 410 3-Way, Geared Pan-and-Tilt Head also includes dedicated angle scales for each movement that are designed for easy visibility.

Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Will this work with the Magnus Rex vt4000 tripod which has a 3/8''-16 base but uses a 65mm bowl?

A: No. i'm sorry, it is not compatible.

Q: 2. Is this a metal or plastic support? I want to use this for google business view.

A: The entire item is metal, except for the rubber adjustable knobs. Solid piece of equipment.

Q: 3. Can this head be used for accurate panoramas? It appears that mount is not centered over the base, which would require two rails: one to center the camera over the base and another to center the nodal point. Is this accurate? Thanks!

A: Get Chris Hejnar's "Extended Plate for Manfrotto 410 Gear Head". This will center an Arca-Swiss type clamp on the panning axis. Replacing the stock Manfrotto QR system with A-S type clamp also eliminates the problematic Manfrotto QR plate system which multiple reviewers state it fell apart of failed with use.

Q: 4. Is this compatible with Really Right Stuff L plates?

A: Yes they are. However you need to adapt them with a custom plate make by a guy in midwest Hejnar Photo. I use this 410 head with his adapter (consists of a base replacement and an Arca Swiss clamp). The Hejnar adapter turns this good 410 head into world class pan tilt head.

Q: 5. Which Manfrotto L-bracket will work with this head?

A: For an architectural photographer this L bracket is the best on the market! worth every penny! I have been using this product with no issues or repairs for over 10 years. Cheryl Fleming Photography

Q: 6. I like this head but refuse to buy a non arca swiss plate system Is there a way to adapt this to the Arca Swiss standard?

A: Also want to mention another option in case the Kirk doesn't pan out (sorry). There is an adapter I found which seems to be made specifically for this setup, I'm sure you can find it with your favorite search engine. Hejnar Photo Arca Type Conversion Set for Manfrotto 410 Gear Head . Again, good luck.

Q: 7. Is max load the only major difference between this and the Manfrotto 405?

A: I have both and the 405 is considerably larger and more robust. The knobs are larger and are slightly different in design but work exactly the same. The knobs on the 405 are much easier to use with gloves on. The same quick release plate works on both which is a major plus if using both.

Q: 8. Will the plate tighten down well enough that there will be no slippage with 8 pounds of gear at 90°?

A: You should have proper stability based on the weight of your gear and the weight capacity of the head.

Q: 9. Can use with other brand tripod?

A: You can use the 410 Junior Geared Head on tripod legs from other brands, yes.

Q: 10. can this head be mounted with a 1/4 - 20 screw?

A: This head has a 3/6 x16 threaded receiver in the bottom. To use a 1/4 x 20 you will need in insert adapter. I use this head for product and macro photography, and it is awesome!

I don't have a lot of experience with tripods and tripod heads, but absolutely love this one. I got to borrow one for a week of shooting and loved it. It's exactly what I need and want in a tripod head. The only downside is the weight of the head- but then again, the weight ensures it is of great quality.

If your goal is to precisely set your tripod head, this is the one for you. The ability to do rough and fine adjustments on all three axis make it easy to set up and use. It is a bargain for the price. I found nothing that I could complain about.

I use it with a Celestron spotting scope to view stars and also Whales. Because of the high magnification and distant objects I struggled with my old tripod to keep the stars/planets in the viewing area when moving or refocusing. This head allows geared movement so I don't loose where I am. It is so easy, I love it. I absolutely recommend it.

More than sturdy enough for a pro DSLR and it works beautifully. I wish there was a second spirit level in the 90 degree position to speed up vertical comps, and as stated in other reviews the 90 degree side tilt limit requires leg adjustment on unlevel surfaces. An extra 5 or 10 degrees there would be great. These aren't necessarily cons but worth considering for certain types of work. Overall very sturdy and precise - to the point that the forward tilt knob becomes a handy fine-focus adjustment for macro shooting.

I bought this for my wife who has trouble adjusting other heads because of arthritis. This head is very easy for her to use, she can make minute changes without the camera flopping around. We do a lot of close up photography and this head is perfect for that style.

I am using this head in a studio setup for macro work. Along with a macro focusing rail, I have complete control over the framing of my photograph. It allows me to make the very small adjustments that are required in this type of work. Solid, well made product.
