A: I had exactly the same question so I asked Manfrotto directly, here is there response...Don, thank you for your enquiry. The MT055XPRO3 tripod max load is 9 kg in its upright position. There is an assumption that when the centre column is repositioned horizontally, the column is usually centered across the tripod. This does not change the max load. if you are extending the column as far as possible to one end, it is suggested to reduce the max load to 2-3 kg. This calculation includes the weight of the head and camera equipment together. Please keep in mind the centre of gravity has shifted off significantly, therefore it will be necessary to add counterbalance. The 405 geared head can be attached to the MT055XPRO3 tripod centre column,. the top of the column has a 3/8 fixing thread which is compatible with the threaded bottom of the head.
