However, if you connect 2 F-series units (including the F4, F8 or F8n) via the timecode in/out, and you turn audio clock sync on, then the clocks and timecode clocks will be synced. A: The difference between this recorder and a unit like the Beachtek or similar would be the ability to record. The Beacktek units only offer the preamps. The recording will still occur on the DSLR and will ultimately still pass through the DSLR electronics and not sufficient for most professional applications.

A: Phantom power on the DR60D is available on both XLR inputs. Mics or other devices that connect via the 3.5mm input jack to channels 3&4 do not require 48v phantom power. They may require what is called plug-in power which is generally 1 - 10 volts and the unit is able to provide this as well.
