This Whirlwind Medusa Multitrack Series 8 Channel 1/4" TRS Male to 1/4" TRS Male Fanout Snake Cable is constructed of multipair cable with a heat-shrunk fanout at each end. The cabling consists of heavy duty, flexible Belden CM rated multipair cable. Each pair contains two twisted 24GA 7x32 polyethylene insulated conductors with 100% foil shield and 24GA drain wire. The fanouts feature genuine Whirlwind 1/4" TRS connectors, and all channels are numbered.

Snake cables can be used to interface multitrack recorders or outboard equipment to mixing consoles, or to combine several balanced (microphone) cables into one smaller diameter multipair cable. Snake cables make setup and teardown much faster and easier, with less tangling and clutter than would otherwise be the case.

Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Planning to use with a lav mic during presentations. Does it fit well in a blazer pocket? What about pants pocket?

A: This will be largely dependent on the size of your specific pocket, but yes, the H1n will fit well in most blazer and pant pockets. For a similar device with an even smaller form factor, please take a look at our F1 model as well.

Q: 2. in every article about zoom recorders for ambient recording it is recommended with different microphones. Whats wrong with the built in mics? if useless what are they for?

A: The onboard microphones on the Zoom H1N are popularly used for recording close range interviews on a tabletop between two dialog subjects, live speeches or live music, band rehearsals, room ambiance, lectures and other sound sources.

Q: 3. The previous model H1N fails to keep the date and time once the batteries are removed. It also tends to drain the batteries when sitting on the shelf for even a few days. Does the new one fix this issue at all? Its annoying to have to change the batteries/set the date and time every time I use the device.

A: After consulting with Zoom engineers on the matter, it seems your specific model may be defective- as the issues you have described are out of the ordinary. You may contact Zoom customer service (Tel 631.542.5270) for details on a warranty exchange. The new H1N will retain the date and time as well, even when the batteries are removed. Batteries are not depleted when not in use and stored away for days a time.

Q: 4. Can I connect this unit to my laptop as a live usb interface? If so what cable do need?

A: Yes, To use the ZOOM H1 as a computer microphone, connect the USB cable to both the computer and the ZOOM H1, with the recorder off. When prompted on the screen select "USB Audio" by pressing the “REC” button. In your computer sound preferences select the ZOOM H1 as the audio input

Q: 5. Where are the 2 inputs that allow two tracks?

A: The Zoom H1n 2-Input / 2-Track Portable Handy Recorder with Onboard X/Y Microphone has a stereo 1/8" / 3.5 mm TRS Female Unbalanced Line/Mic Input.

Q: 6. Will the H1n record phone calls on the iPhone 11?

A: Yes, you can record phone calls from your iPhone onto the Zoom H1n recorder, but you will need to use an interface to connect the output from the iPhone to the input on the H1n. As a simple solution, you could use an external mic with a headphone output such as the Polsen MO-IPL2 Lavalier Microphone with Lightning Connector and Headphone Jack for iOS Devices (B&H # POMOIPL2). The mic will connect directly to your iPhone's Lightning port. Then use a stereo aux cable such as the Pearstone Stereo Mini Male to Stereo Mini Male Cable - Black, 3' (B&H # PEMMSA103B) to connect the headphone output from the mic to the input on the H1n. Connect standard headphones to the headphone jack on the H1n to monitor the audio as it's being recorded on the H1n. There are many other options that can be configured with adapter cables such as the JK Audio CellTap 4C Wireless Phone Audio Tap Adapter (B&H # JKCELLTAP4C) or an IK Multimedia iRig Pre Microphone Interface (B&H # IKIRIGPRE) or StarTech Headset Output Splitter for Dedicated Mic & Headphones Plugs (B&H # STMUYHSMFFAW). Please feel free to contact us by phone or through live chat to put together the best options for your application.

Q: 7. I just purchased Zoom H1n. What In-Ear-Monitor impedance rating(ohms)should I use?

A: The H1n has a rated output level of 20 mW + 20 mW into 32Ω.

Q: 8. Can I use this recorder with my MacBook Pro?

A: The H1n can be used with a Macbook Pro as a card reader or as an audio interface.

Q: 9. How does this recorder compare to the Tascam DR-05?

A: Audio can be a very subjective thing, but I would have to say I like the sound of the Zoom H1n a little better, and also find it easier to use.

Q: 10. Can I input two lavaliers using a stereo Y-connector to 1/8 AND have the mics each recorded on their own track (Mic #1 - Left Channel' Mic #2 - Right channel)... to clarify, I don't want the two lavaliers to be mixed on a single track or mixed on both tracks. (*one for each track) ?

A: Yes. You can use a mini mixer like the Saramonic AX1 Passive 2-Channel Audio Mixer for Cameras, Smartphones, Tablets, and Computers (B&H # SAAX1). Since the AX1 is passive and does not supply plug-in power for microphones, you will need to use microphones that do not require any voltage, like a condenser mic that has a battery, a wireless mic system, or a dynamic mic. The Polsen OLM-10 Omnidirectional Lavalier Microphone (B&H # POOLM10) has its own battery for power and could be a good option. As another option for a very simple setup, you could use a dual lavalier mic setup like the Polsen OLM-20 Dual Omnidirectional Lavalier Microphone (B&H # POOLM20) which has two mics for left and right connected to one 3.5mm TRS plug and will automatically route each mic to the separate channels.

This is a perfect device when recording audio in tight places. Especially when compared to its big brothers H4, H6

I was also very surprised by the high quality of audio that this little guy can capture. Highly recommend having one or two of these in your kit.

Yes, this is a lightweight, all plastic device but it is extremely functional for the price point. I was looking for a multipurpose, inexpensive, device that could fit a number of occasional needs: do casual field recordings and sound sampling for fun, act as device to record sounds from a Soma Ether, directly record noises sent through a Bastl Dude mixing small synths, and be an audio interface when needed. I like that my Rode Video Micro works with it, and that I can also use it in place of the Video micro for a different style of recording with a camera. The bonus, for me, is the sounds it manages to pick up in the distance... and the overdub feature. In short, I'm using this for fun and the product is just that. If you are into serious audio, understand that the plastic body is very sensitive and can pick up easily pickup sounds from contact. You may also find yourself adjusting the levels in post.

If you need a small digital recorder for interviews or lectures, this is perfect. The sound quality is great and the navigation is simple enough that it doesn't get in the way. Note, you cannot record both yourself and the interviewee at the same time.
