The zebra wood 4 x 5" Pinhole Camera from Lensless features a 3" focal length. Lensless Cameras are constructed of different woods. Each model has a tiny hole (1/64" or smaller) precisely drilled in the front panel. The shutter is simply a small hinged metal plate that the photographer swings up and down to begin and end the exposure. The focal length is determined by the length of the camera. The format is determined by the size of the back of the camera, which accepts the film holder. Since it is designed to accept a sheet film holder, there is no need to load the camera in the dark.

This is a zebra wood, 4 x 5" Pinhole Camera, with a focal length of 75mm, which is a wide angle perspective for this format. Average exposure in bright, noon-day sun is 4 seconds, using 400 ISO film.

A: Yes, any of the standard 4x5 cut film holders will work quite nicely. I have 15 or 20 of them that I load at one time, so there is no need to do so in the field.

If you are using 400 speed film choose ISO 400 on the meter or camera. Q: 9. From what material is the pinhole made?Is the pinhole drilled in wood or metal or plastic? How much precision is there to the pinhole? Is it drilled by laser?

A: Unfortunately, the manufacturer does not share their manufacturing process with us regarding this item. However, the pinhole is quite precise based on the positive reviews.

Q: 10. Do you have any instructions on how to load the film in this camera. There was not any instructions with it. I know it must be simple, but how, with not exposing the film.

A: On the back end of the camera there is a rectangular piece of wood secured by 2 dowels. If one isn't using a cut film holder with the camera you simply mount the film to that rectangular piece of wood (needs to be loaded in the dark you may wish to practice using a spent sheet of film in the light first before going into the dark to load). If you are using a cut film holder or other back you just leave out the rectangular piece of wood and secure whatever film back you're using with the 2 dowels (film backs should also be loaded in the dark). After 14 years photographing (6 of which have been doing digital) I decided to make a change for good. I have received this camera after doing some research and I really love it. It is beautifully made and works great (despite its simplicity). It is a good learning step I thought before I really build a bigger one myself. I have tried it with a Polaroid i545 holder and some Type 72 sheets as well as I am doing paper negatives. Still on the learning curve about exposure times, but the images I am getting are phenomenal. Thanks.

Fantastic pictures. A little dark around the edges (normal for pinhole cameras). But overall, just a great little camera. I could not build it for less money, so it is also a great bargain. I'm buying more cameras from Lensless.

This is a well built camera that is solid, yet lightweight. After a quick read of the instructions, I was off on a hike through the woods with the camera, film and tripod. Each exposure yielded a very good negative. The only real learning curve involves accurately determining the field of view.

Stick it on a tripod and use the f154 aperture and let 'er rip. It is more fun than a greased pig at a Polish wedding (and I've been to one or two.)

I like this camera a lot, but I had to cut a slot in the bottom with a jig saw to be able to use it with a Polaroid type 405 holder (not difficult), otherwise there is no place for the dark slide to go. It would make sense for this to be offered as an option, since using instant film is a great way to use these.
