Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. How long is the camera with the lens fully extended?

A: Extended length is 12".

Q: 2. Which one is better: photo taken at 3000 zoom with this P1000 or 600 zoom expanded to 3000 digitally with sony RX 10 IV ???

A: The Nikon COOLPIX P1000 Digital Camera has the smaller 1/3 16MP sensor with a significantly longer lens than the Sony Cyber-shot DSC-RX10 IV Digital Camera with its larger 1 20MP. We would be of the opinion that the image quality of the same subject, same distance, same final size would be comparable. In other words, most viewers with not see a difference. However, only testing and personal taste can confirm this. We would suggest basing your choice on what feature is more important: The P1000's longer reach or the RX10's slightly better low light ability and image quality.

Q: 3. Are there other lenses or can I use my DX lenses.

A: You can not change the lens on this camera. It is fixed.

Q: 4. Is it made in Japan or China or Thailand...?

A: This camera is made in Thailand.

Q: 5. Hellow quick question, can this camera shoot in a night vision mode or infrared for night time sky photography?

A: For night sky photography capturing the Milky Way, you do not need night vision or infrared. In fact, neither would get you the look you are looking for. Ideally, you would use a full frame sensor camera and a quality wide angle prime lens (plus a tripod) to do astrophotography. The P1000 camera will do very well capturing a close up of the moon. However, it would not be a good choice for night time sky photography. That is because the sensor is too small for good and the lens too slow for low light capture. Shooting the night sky means no more than a 30 second exposure otherwise the stars move too much and become not beautiful point of light but ugly blur. You can do that with a full frame camera and fast prime lens and not with the P1000. And finally, to answer your question, there is no night vision or infrared in the P1000.

Q: 6. In manual mode does the ISO default to a set number once exposure time is greater than 1 second?

A: We are not sure of the behavior of the P1000 since it is not out yet and we do not have access to enough information at this time. Going off the P900 however, we see that in manual mode, when set to Auto or Fixed range auto, the ISO sensitivity is fixed at ISO 100. This appears to apply to anything regarding exposure time.

Q: 7. I would like to buy Wide Angle, Macro Lens & Telephoto lens (zoom lens) for for Nikon P1000, can you please recommend me the best one?

A: When using the Nikon COOLPIX P1000 Digital Camera, one cannot mount any interchangeble lenses onto the camera. One could mount wide angle and telephoto adapter lenses if they would fit on the 77mm lens mount of the P1000, but the quality of the images would be distorted.

Q: 8. Does the EVF (viewfinder) function in video mode?

A: This is not a DSLR so yes the EVF and the rear screen work alternatively at all times.

Q: 9. Can the P1000 shoot videos and can it shoot for an unlimited/unrestricted time?

A: The Nikon Coolpix P1000 Digital Camera can capture UHD 4K video (3840 x 2160) at 25p/29.97p, Full HD video (1920 x 1080) at 25p/29.97p/50p/59.94p, and standard HD video (1280 x 720) at 25p/29.97p/50p/59.94p. Individual movie files cannot exceed 29 minutes in length, even when there is sufficient free space on the memory card for longer recording. The maximum file size for individual movies is 4 GB.

Q: 10. is the zoomed image visible in the viewfinder?

A: Yes.
