Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Does this recorder have live listening? Can you listen to what you are recording, through this recorder with headphones while recording?

A: Yes, when headphones are plugged in to the headphone/line output the live recording feed can be monitored.

Q: 2. When the memory card is full, does the recording stop or the recording continue, erasing the oldest file ??

A: The Zoom H1n 2-Input / 2-Track Portable Handy Recorder will cease to record when the memory card is full.

Q: 3. How does this recorder compare to the Tascam DR-05?

A: Audio can be a very subjective thing, but I would have to say I like the sound of the Zoom H1n a little better, and also find it easier to use.

Q: 4. Can you feed the output signal to the camera audio inputs safely? Or e.g. at lower output volume?

A: This can be done by running a standard aux cable from the headphone/line output of your H1n to the mic/line in of your camera. You can then use the volume +/- buttons to set the levels appropriately.

Q: 5. Has anyone else experienced audio-skips while using either of the 24-bit depth WAV options in longer (30+ minute) recordings? I think my unit may be defective.

A: Short answer is no - at least not yet. Maybe you need a different SD card.

Q: 6. I need to digitize reel to reel tapes from an old player/recorder. Can this do that? How would it connect, and would I need an interface or would it give decent quality without?

A: This protable recoder does have a line input , so you could come out of the reel ro reel player andinto this unit. I am not failiar with what type of output connection is on those units, but a cable such as this could work if you have stereo RCA connections: Comprehensive 10' Stereo 3.5mm Male to Dual RCA Male Y-Cable, BH #COMPS2PP10ST. You would get good qaulity files on a micro SD card with the Zomme H1N. These files could then be imported into a computer and then burned on to CD's or put onto a mobile device to play back.

Q: 7. Would this mike work well for interviewing 2 people?

A: Yes you can use the stereo microphones on the top to record a interview, however keep in mind both the distance you placing the recorder from the person you interviewing and the fact this are stereo microphones they will pick up everything around you including noise. You will get better audio recording with one microphone per person, for interviews I recommend lavalier microphones.

Q: 8. Can you record sound from Skype interviews through the USB connection?

A: No this mic will not record skype calls via the USB connection. The H1n works as a class-compliant interface with your computer, recording audio at 44.1 or 48 kHz sample rates and 16-bit resolution, straight to your DAW.

Q: 9. The previous model H1N fails to keep the date and time once the batteries are removed. It also tends to drain the batteries when sitting on the shelf for even a few days. Does the new one fix this issue at all? Its annoying to have to change the batteries/set the date and time every time I use the device.

A: After consulting with Zoom engineers on the matter, it seems your specific model may be defective- as the issues you have described are out of the ordinary. You may contact Zoom customer service (Tel 631.542.5270) for details on a warranty exchange. The new H1N will retain the date and time as well, even when the batteries are removed. Batteries are not depleted when not in use and stored away for days a time.

Q: 10. Does this recorder support TRS or TRRS?

A: all the 3.5mm jacks on this unit are TRS.
