As simple as it is versatile, the AF NIKKOR 50mm f/1.8D from Nikon is a compact normal-length prime lens. Its bright f/1.8 maximum aperture is well-suited for working in a variety of lighting conditions and also affords greater control over depth of field for isolating focus. A Super Integrated Coating has been applied to individual elements, and reduces lens flare and ghosting for increased contrast and color accuracy when working in bright and backlit conditions. Also, a rounded seven-blade diaphragm contributes to a pleasing bokeh quality.

Normal-length prime lens is designed for FX-format Nikon F-mount cameras, however can also be used with DX models where it provides a 75mm equivalent focal length.

Bright f/1.8 maximum aperture offers depth of field control for working with selective focus techniques.

A Super Integrated Coating has been applied to individual elements to suppress internal reflections, flare, and ghosting for improved contrast and color accuracy when working in strong lighting conditions.

Autofocus system is compatible with select Nikon DSLRs that support D-type lenses, and offers quick and precise focusing performance.

Autofocus is not supported by DSLRs lacking an autofocus motor, such as the D3000-series, D5000-series, D40, D40X, and D60, where the lens may be used with manual focus only.

Rounded seven-blade diaphragm promotes a pleasing out of focus quality that benefits the use of shallow depth of field and selective focus techniques.

Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. would the auto focus work on a Nikon D3400?

A: No it will not. The body needs to have an autofocus motor in it. The D3400 does not.

Q: 2. Interested in using this lens for cinematography. Can someone tell me how the focus throw is on this lens?

A: It has about a 3 throw, on a lens barrel that is about 63 mm in diameter. It covers about a 40 degree twist. The focus ring is very light, with little resistance, and feels very hollow and plastic-y.

Q: 3. does this work on the nikon d5200?

A: While the Nikon AF NIKKOR 50mm f/1.8D Lens is compatible with the Nikon D5200 DSLR camera and can be mounted to the camera, as the Nikon AF NIKKOR 50mm f/1.8D Lens does not have its own built-in AF-S autofocus motor, you would have to focus this lens manually when used on the Nikon D5200 DSLR camera. However, you will still have auto-exposure capabilities with the lens, and if you upgrade to the Nikon D7000-series or higher, the lens would then autofocus with your future camera purchase (as Nikon D7000-series cameras and higher have their autofocus motor built inside the camera body).

Q: 4. Will the lens work on a FM10 body?

A: Technically, it will work. But an AiS manual focus lens would be a better match for that fully manual body.

Q: 5. Will this work on a Nikon F3?

A: Yes, the Nikon AF NIKKOR 50mm f/1.8D Lens would be compatible for use with the Nikon F3 35mm SLR camera.

Q: 6. Will this work with the light meter on a n90s

A: I,m sorry, but I have no idea.

Q: 7. I have a Nikon D70s and would like to buy this lens? Can you tell me if my camera Nikon D70s will support autofocus of this lens?

A: The Nikon D70s will support autofocus with the Nikon AF 50mm f/1.8D lens, yes. This lens is fully compatible with the D70s.

Q: 8. I have a d40 & I know I'd have to manually focus with this lens. Is there a 50mm/1.8 lens that will auto focus with the d40?

A: Yes, Nikon does offer an AF-S version of this lens which has the required built-in motor to autofocus with your D40. See the link below for details on the lens:http://bhpho.to/1bhjeTy

Q: 9. Does this lens work on a nikon d810?

A: Yes it does!

Q: 10. What adapter do I require to be used whit a Canon EOS T7i?

A: If you plan to use the Nikon AF NIKKOR 50mm f/1.8D Lens, B&H # NI5018DAF, on the Canon EOS Digital Rebel T7i DSLR camera, and if this will be the only Nikon lens you will use, then the Vello Nikon F Lens to Canon EF/EF-S-Mount Camera Lens Adapter, B&H # VELACEFNAF, would be a good option for your usage needs. If you plan to use a variation of Nikon lenses, including the newer lenses that do not have built-in aperture rings, then the Vello Nikon F-Mount G Lens to Canon EF/EF-S-Mount Camera Lens Adapter with Aperture Control, B&H # VELACEFNG, would be a more flexible option as it has built-in aperture control on the lens adapter.

This lens is by far my favorite I've had it for over a month now and it's so many things I love about it like it's light weight the way u can blur the background is amazing, the 50mm focal length is perfect I thought it wouldn't be close enough but it's perfect and in low light situations it's perfect like inside of the house and u don't need to have a flash most of the time and that along takes weight off my camera since I don't have to carry my sb600 flash around. ... I used the kit lens on my d80 for three years--this lens has great optics and i love the extra stops. The results are incredible. For the price I recommend this lens without reservation.

I use a 50mm on a crop body for low light work. Great focal length for portraits and couples. I find this is better (albeit an f1.8) than my 50/1.4g

I had a 50mm 1.4 lens with my old Pentax 35mm. It stayed on my camera90% of the time. When I upgraded to digital (a d90) this was the first lens I went to buy, instead of going with the 1.4, I decided to try this new f1.8 lens and save a few $$. So far I have found the lens fast enough for almost every situation, and the DOF and clarity are quite nice wide open.

Wanted a portrait lens to have some fun with, that didn't cost a fortune - this is it! Super sharp images, beautiful bokeh, and nice, bright colors.
