The Tiffen 72mm Low Contrast 3 Filter can be applied to purposely reduce contrast while photographing an image or while recording video. By redistributing illumination from brighter to darker areas within a scene, this filter is useful in helping to balance the tonal range among highlights and shadows. Detail is increased within shadow regions while a halation effect around highlights is created which can further enhance a scene's appearance or produce a desired effect.

This filter has a grade of 3. Grades of 1/8, 1/4, 1/2, 1, 2, 4, and 5 are also available where this filter type's effect becomes approximately twice as strong with each grade number increase.

This filter is made using ColorCore technology, a process that involves laminating the filter substrate between 2 pieces of optical glass and grinding flat to a tolerance of 1/10,000th of an inch.

Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Is this lens compatible with Nikon D5000?

A: This Tamron lens makes a model compatible with Nikon. Check with Tamron to be sure.

Q: 2. good for sports?

A: The Tamron 16-300mm f/3.5-6.3 Di II VC PZD MACRO Lens for Nikon autofocus is too slow sports photography.

Q: 3. Does this camera have metal or plastic treads?

A: I would say that it looks more like rubber to me. The lens is heavy, if you are looking for a versatile lens I recommend it

Q: 4. Does this lens work with a Nikon D700?

A: The Nikon D700 has a FX format sensor and this Tamron len is for cameras with APS-C Sensors. It should be matched with a DX format camera like the Nikon D7XXX series.

Q: 5. Is this lens compatible with Canon Rebel XT?

A: I never have used on XT

Q: 6. Can this lens be used for video with a Canon C100? I'm concerned about two things: 1) Will the lack of image stabilization make hand-held work impossible due to shake? And 2) Another commenter mentioned a very thin focus ring making quick manual focusing a challenge. Thoughts?

A: The lens does have stabilization. While I am unfamiliar with the Canon C100, it works exceedingly well on The Canon 70D, 7D, and 7D Mark II. All of the knurled front of the lens is the focus ring. With the each of the Canon cameras mentioned, extremely fast focus is attained and maintained. With the touch screen on 70D it is possible during a basketball game to touch the screen, have it focus on one person and stay focused while moving.

Q: 7. Does this Tamron 16-300mm + Viltrox EF-Nex iii adapter work well for recording video on Sony A6000?

A: The Tamron 16-300VC-PZD is a great walk-around lens for Canon or Nikon APS-crop bodies. You can hang it around your neck for hours at a time and you're ready for everything from bugs and flowers to elephants and cityscapes. You're even ready to copy pages out of somebody's photo album. It may not be the widest, or longest, or fastest, or quickest-focusing lens in your bag. But when you don't know what you'll encounter -- and you don't want to carry the bag -- this is the lens you'll reach for. (Tamron service is great when you drop it off a table, too.) Somebody else will have to tell you how well it works with a Viltrox adapter on a Sony, though. I've never tried that.

Q: 8. Does tameron make a comparable lens in FX format that can be used with A Nikon d 750

A: This particular Tamron lens is for a DX not FX. Although it will work, to take full advantage of the full frame (FX) of a D750, you should use an FX lens. I use a Tamron 28-300mm which is an FX lens.

Q: 9. Is this an FX lens?

A: No this is a dx lens so if you do have a dx camera I highly recomend this lense. It's a great value and high quality

Q: 10. Does the lock switch only work when set on mm18... cause I know the 18-270 tamron only had the lock switch work while on the 18mm mark.

A: yes, it only locks at 18mm setting.
