Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Will this ring light properly mount on the hot shoe & sync with my Panasonic GH3?

A: Yes, this ring light will mount on your cameras hot shoe, and comes with lens filter adapters in every conventional size from 49-77mm. There is no sync issue as this is a light, not a flash, so it is the same as shooting in any situation with available light.

Q: 2. Will the holder fit in a bigger scanner like the Epson V800 or V850?

A: Yes, so long as you leave the same gap at the bottom of the glass as the Epson holders does for other size film.

Q: 3. Will this ring light work on a Pentax K3 or K-1 ?

A: I have both cameras, and this light works on both. The lens is actually more important than the camera body. I own lenses that are too small and too large.

Q: 4. Will this unit work with a Panasonic GX7?

A: Please, understand this flash holds itself by an attachment ring connected to the lens as a filter, like UV filter. You just need to check the lens filter diameter and check with the flash diameter. It comes with 8 lens adapter from 49-77 mm.GX7 has interchangeable lenses so you need to check which you want to use.

Q: 5. Can I use this if I already have a polarizing filter already screwed on to the front of my lens? I'm unclear on how it attaches.

A: I don't see the problem. The flash attach to its own ring that can go after the polarizing lens. All lenses have screw on both sides to allow this kind of connection. You just have to pick the proper flash adapter diameter wise according to your lens diameter.

Q: 6. Is this ring flash for Canon PS S5 IS?

A: Unfortunately, the Bolt VM-110 is not compatible with the Canon PS S5 IS.

Q: 7. Is this flash going to work with a sony alfa 55 camera?

A: The Bolt VM-110 will be fully compatible with a Sony Alpha camera body with the use of the Sony Auto-Lock Shoe Adapter: http://bhpho.to/1gjWYR5

Q: 8. Is this compatible with fuji x-t10?

A: Yes, this is compatible with the Fuji X-T10 but still depends on the lens that you use. It will include 8 x Adapter Rings (49, 52, 55, 58, 62, 67, 72, and 77mm).

Q: 9. How much light does this light put out? To say the Guide No. is 15'/4.7m at ISO 100 does not answer the question. Guide Numbers are useful for flash, because the flash duration is far less than the shutter speed required for flash sync, and therefore does not effect the exposure (For the record, the relevant calculation for manual flash exposure is Aperture = GN divided by distance). For a continuous light source, exposure time is a relevant factor, and I would need to know the brightness of the light to calculate the exposure time and aperture as well as distance and ISO to get the correct exposure.Lux or EV at a certain distance would be appropriate, or you could give me a Guide Number that includes a certain exposure time, for example 1/100 sec.Typically a ring light is used for macro photography at a very short distance. At a very short distance light falloff due to the inverse square law is small. On the other hand Depth of Field is extremely small at large magnifications, requiring a very small aperture of F22 or smaller. So plenty of light is needed. So I come back to my question - how much light does this device produce? I am interested, but need to know before I decide to buy.

A: Hello David - I have had this product for a couple of years now. I have found it to be useful on many occasions, including adding the light to the camera for great fill flash outdoors on folks. The LEDS are split into all on, left or right banks of LEDS. Or, from a macro ring-flash POV the unit is functional and adds sufficient light when using it for macro work. THE MAIN THING TO CONSIDER is that this is a VERY PLASTIC unit. Including the vast number of lens-rings. It is doubtful that the unit would survive a fall to the ground - AND - you only have one shot at the threads on the plastic rings... For the money however, I found a safe place for the light to live in a gadget bag, so I keep it warm, safe, and dry. All in all, If you plan to make this a go-to flash, my opinion is keep looking and find a unit is built to handle heavy use. Otherwise, this is a little gem to have when you realize that you need it. Hope that helps! Kevin

Q: 10. Can I use the 110 Film Scanning mask to hold film on a light table while I do a camera scan?

A: Yes you could however please remember that it is a negative and that you still need to use software to invert from Negative to Positive state.
