The Sony ECM-680 Stereo Shotgun Microphone provides both M/S (Mid-Side) stereo, and mono audio capturing, at the touch of a switch. The electret-condenser, unidirectional (cardioid) ECM-680, features internal M/S decoding for true stereo placement.

In mono mode, the ECM-680 captures audio like a true shotgun microphone, with superb audio rejection and increased range. The wide frequency response, excellent signal-to-noise ratio and wide dynamic range result in pristine audio reproduction. Measuring only 9-inches long, the ECM-680 is an ideal solution for camera mount applications.

Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Will this also work for PC as USB mic?

A: No, the Sony ECM-B1M is not compatible with computers.

Q: 2. How can i use this microphone with the a7s iii, and be able to have the 4channels (for timecode)

A: The microphone is mono, single channel only.

Q: 3. So if I want my audio converted to digital IN-MIC, I need a Sony A7R IV? And using it on my Sony A7iii only gets me analog into camera? Please confirm.

A: Hi Roger, This microphone will work with the Sony A7III for Analog Audio through the Multi-Interface Shoe on the camera. For digital audio, you will need Sony A7RIV or A9II for the feature to work.

Q: 4. This microphone compatible with sony a6600?

A: It will only work with Sony cameras equipped with the Multi Interface Shoe.

Q: 5. Sony a7siii compatible?

A: Yes, the Sony ECM-B1M Camera-Mount Digital Shotgun Microphone for Sony Cameras is compatible with the Multi Interface Shoe connection on the Sony A7SIII.

Q: 6. I know that on a7iii the B1M mic will only be analog. what is the differance between analog and digital sound? analog is worse?

A: When the Sony B1M is used in analog mode, the audio signal must undergo more conversion steps, which is not likely to produce an audible difference in quality but is technically less efficient. In addition, adding an analog audio cable between the microphone and camera may introduce noise to the signal.

Q: 7. Sound quality when the speaker is beyond an arms reach? Can I have the speaker 6ft -10ft from mic and have usable sound?

A: At 10 feet away, you might still get better sound than the microphone built into the camera, but the ECM-B1M Camera-Mount Digital Shotgun Microphone will usually sound best within 3-5 feet away from the subject. As the voice gets farther from the mic, you will pick up more echo and ambient noise in the recording.

Q: 8. Is this mic compatible with the Sony a7sii?

A: Yes, the Sony ECM-B1M Camera-Mount Digital Shotgun Microphone for Sony Cameras is compatible for use with the Multi Interface Shoe on the Sony a7S II Mirrorless Camera.

Q: 10. What is the USB port for?

A: The Micro USB port is an output port.
