The 12' Manfrotto Alu Master Air-Cushioned Stand is a lightweight support with an impressive load capacity. A clever design feature called QSS (Quick Stack System) allows the stand to fold flat, enabling several stands to be clipped together to save space in the studio or on the road.

The Alu Master comes with a 5/8" (16mm) "Baby" stud, a 1/4"-20 screw, and a 3/8"-16 screw. It features air cushioning to ensure the soft descent of fragile equipment when the locking knob is loosened.

Q: 1. Can this or similar stand be adapted for a mirrorles camera? Regular monopods with feet are not stable they sway. Ive tried several.

A: Yes, this stand can be adapted to a camera mount but I would not recommend it. It will not be stable and if you do not attach a head to it, you will have no way of panning and tilting the camera.

Q: 2. Another answer said only the knobs are plastic but is it quality plastic? Will I squeeze on it and crack the knob or is it a nice hard solid plastic that will hold up?

A: I personally would not recommend it for a 5lbs setup. We use an sbracket with a speed light and a 28in softbox or speed light with MAGMOD for on location work. I would say a 2-3lbs setup would be the most I would trust. Unless youre laying some sandbags to keep it weighted down. Without weighing it down it tends to tip over with our softbox. They do make a larger model that spreads wider at the base for more stability and heavier gear. Overall though I highly recommend these for light run and gun setups.

Good price for good stand. Similar to my Manfrotto Stacker stands. Perhaps not quite as heavy-duty. I only tested the legs. I bought this to be a light stick so I removed the legs and use it with a monolight and lithium ion inverter. 5

Even though this stand is a bit pricier than others, I still find it to be a great value given the overall quality and durability of the stand. I especially like the stacking feature. 5

Light weight and well built. I was a bit concerned about the air cushion when I first received the stand, but once I put a strobe and battery pack on the stand the the air cushion worked like a charm. It's really nice to use outdoors, when I'm constantly moving from location to location. 5

Purchased two of these to use with Bowens Gemini Espirit mono blocks - replaced lighter duty stands that are now being used for backgrounds. Very happy with them and don't anticipate a need to replace them - they're that good. I'm also very happy with the slim design when they are folded and hooked together; makes transport for on-location shooting easier, but they are heavier than the lighter duty stands they replaced (getting used to that). 5
