The Countryman E6i Omnidirectional Microphone is a miniature earset microphone for virtually invisible operation in stage performances, trade shows, houses-of-worship, auctions, lectures and much more.

The omnidirectional version is most common in applications where feedback issues are not very likely. The microphone can be worn without a windscreen as the omnidirectional capsule provides excellent wind noise rejection.

The E6i is set apart from the original E6 with its softer flexible boom and silicon ear-pads. The flexible boom provides ease of boom adjustability to accommodate multi-user applications.

A wide variety of colors and connections are available for use with various wireless transmitters. This version is beige and features a Screw-on Mini 4-pin connector for Sabine transmitters.

A miniature omnidirectional capsule is mounted to a low-profile, flexible frame with silicon ear pads. This lightweight, unobtrusive design is available in various colors that virtually render the entire microphone invisible against the skin.

The included 2mm Diameter Duramax Cable detaches from the actual headset, making it completely replaceable in the event of a short or break. The replaceable cable design makes upgrading wireless microphone systems easy, as they are available in a wide selection of connections to accommodate various wireless transmitters. The Duramax 2mm diameter cable provides extra strength, flexibility and durability.

The omnidirectional polar pattern is most effective in minimizing wind noise, plosives (popping) and handling noise. The flexible boom provides a custom fit for multiple users and close microphone positioning while minimizing off-axis noise. The E6i is also available in a cardioid version for maximum off-axis noise rejection in environments with high feedback and noise.

This E6i sensitivity response is optimized to accurately capture general speech without noise and distortion.

Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. The specs for this say operating voltage is 3 to 12 V, but the recommended mics for my Pentax K1 Mark ii specifies "Plug-in Power Method 2 v or lower." Does this mean this mic won't work with my Pentax?

A: The specs for the VideoMicro may have changed over time and we will update the information on our website. I checked with Rode and power requirements for the VideoMicro are 2 to 5 VDC so there will not be any compatibility issues using this microphone with your Pentax K1 Mark II camera. Here is a link to Rode's product info page for verification: https://www.rode.com/microphones/videomicro

Q: 2. Is it compatible with the Canon XA50 camcorder?

A: Yes, the VideoMicro is compatible for use with a Canon XA50 camcorder. You can use an XLR adapter like the Rode VXLR+ 3.5mm TRS Female to XLR Male Adapter with Phantom Power Converter (B&H #ROVXLRP) to connect to one of the camera's XLR inputs. The mic operates using plug-in power and the VXLR+ adapter will allow you to use phantom power from the camera and converts it to plug-in power for the mic.

Q: 3. Will this mount on a Nikon D300s?

A: The XM55 ships with a cold shoe mount adapter that will allow you to mount this mic on a D300S and with the included cable connect to the 1/8 mic input jack on the camera.

Q: 4. Is the included RF cable shielded? Some of the other Rycote Super-Shield systems list that the XLR cable is, but this one doesn't say.

A: Although Rycote does not divulge this level of specification for the cables used in the Rycote Super-Blimp NTG5 Windshield Kit for Rode NTG5 Microphone, most of their cable sourcing comes from Mogami and should most likely be well shielded.

Q: 5. Can I use it with Canon 5D mk IV ?

A: Yes. This mic is compatible with the Canon 5D, or any camera that has a 3.5mm microphone input jack.

Q: 6. Does this put out good sound quality?

A: It pleases me. I use it for recording passing trains for which it is excellent. I haven't tried recording voices.

Q: 7. Would this be a good microphone for filming Skateboarding? If not then which one?

A: Yes!! This is a great microphone for my DSLR and iPhone and I believe it would be great for recording skateboarding!Have an awesome day!!

Q: 8. Can I used this with a Zoom H4n as an external microphone?

A: You can use the Video Micro with your zoom recorder with the adapter below and providing phantom power: https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1358231-REG/rode_vxlr_mini_jack_to_xlr_adaptor.html?sts=pi&pim=Y Additionally you can plug directly into the 3.5mm mic input, but that will disable the on-board microphones.

Q: 9. Would I be better off using the tascam Dr 40 on a shockmount or is this mic better for short films and event recording

A: The Vidpro XM-55 is best suited for capturing dialogue. The Tascam Dr-40 features a stereo mic, so is better for picking up bigger areas and ambient audio. Either items would work for you, based on your specific needs.

Q: 10. Will it work with the Canon R5 Camera?

A: Yes it will.
