Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. I know the unit requires 7.5 watts and 1.5 amps to power it, but what is the max voltage that the USB-C can handle? I would like to connect a LPN battery directly to the USB without having to buy the $60 battery sled.

A: Hello Michael. Generally, if you connect a battery to a device via USB-C, the battery and the device to which it is connected will negotiate the maximum voltage. The MixPre-3 II only uses 5-volts via USB-C. It will not negotiate to the higher available voltages.

Q: 2. Anyone have an idea of approximate run/record time on 4 AA batteries in the real world?

A: Battery run time can vary depending on the type of AA batteries that you are using and what type of application the recorder is used for. For example, mics that require 48V phantom power draw more power from the batteries than mics that use a separate battery or don't require any power. Sound Devices has a few articles posted on their website about maximizing battery run time in MixPre series recorders and on different types of powering options that can be used. Both articles provide information that you will find helpful. Here are links for both articles: http://www.sounddevices.com/mixpre-3-mixpre-6-maxbatteryruntime/ http://www.sounddevices.com/mixpre-3-mixpre-6-powering-options/

Q: 3. Does the Mix Pre II have a PIP Plug-in-Power mic input, or do I need some kind of PIP-XLR connection?

A: Hi Stein! The MixPre-Series offers PIP for 1 microphone on the 3.5mm AUX-IN port. This is a stereo input, but we cannot guarantee that PIP will work for a stereo microphone (although customers have stated that stereo PIP mics work).

Q: 4. Can I sync timecode from my Fujifilm X-T3?

A: Thank you for your question. Neither the Fujifilm or the Mix pre 3 generate time code. You would need to get an external time code syncing device and input the devices into the mic input on camera and the TRS AUX in on the mix pre. I suggest using the Tentacle Sync Sync E Timecode Generator with Bluetooth (Dual Set) BH #TETE2

Q: 5. I'm thinking about upgrading from my Mixpre-6 (first gen.) to the II. I have my settings/presets just the way I want them on my original recorder. If I export my presets from my original recorder, will the II accept them with no trouble?

A: Ask Sound Devices. Their tech support is pretty good.

Q: 6. What accessory can I use to mount this on a mic stand or neck of a tripiod?

A: Hello Patrick. All MixPre II Series recorders have ¼-inch, 20-threaded screw mounts on their top and bottom panels for mounting to gear. Please use the attached allen wrench to pop-up the screw by pushing the straight part of the wrench up into the bottom of the MixPre-3 II.

Q: 7. Can the Canon R5 output timecode over HDMI to the MP6ii so audio/video can be easily synced in post by timecode?

A: Yes, the Sound Devices MixPre-6 II can input timecode via HDMI that is sent from the Canon EOS R5 Digital Camera.

Q: 8. Can this be used to sync a two-camera interview-via timecode out-through hard wired cables (since there's only one output)? Or would that require something like a tentacle sync?

A: The Sound Devices MixPre-3 II cannot be hardwired to two cameras' TC inputs at the same time.

Q: 9. Can I hook my wireless headphones to the headphone out via bluetooth?

A: Call the Sound Devices Tech support, the number is on web site. They give excellent phone tech advise.. They will have your answer. By the way, the mix-Pre 3-2 is the best recording device I have ever used. I have been in the business since the Nargra 3.

Q: 10. How many tracks can be recorded at a time

A: Please read the description. It’s all there, less complicated than asking that question but for politeness here’s the copy and paste: Record up to six tracks of external sources (four channels via XLR-1/4" combo jacks and two channels via a 3.5mm mini jack)—as well as a stereo mix
