Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. On the B&H specs sheet for the BMPCC 4K, it says that the data rates for RAW are 21 to 203 MB/s. On the specs sheet provided on the Blackmagic site, it say that the highest possible data rate for RAW is 135 MB/s. Has there been an update and B&H didn't change their specs sheet? Or is this simply a mistake on B&H's specs sheet?

A: The 203 Mb number is listed on the Blackmagic site in the constant quality mode. The two sites have the same numbers but may not be presented exactly the same. The manual has a more complete listing of rates and formats.

Q: 2. Is Metabones going to make a SpeedBooster for the Pocket 4K that will support both Full Frame and APS-C lenses without having to buy and use two SpeedBooster?

A: We do not know of Metabones pending releases. We will also say that whatever they do would be based on what is physically possible. We would imagine there will be a Metabones EF to MFT adapter available. EF-S lenses due to their construction on the other hand, may very well prohibit such an adapter.

Q: 3. Is the 5 LCD monitor HDR? If so to what cd/m2? Alternatively, would this be the intent of your HLG monitoring LUT (to depict what an HLG HDR image would look like albeit on an SRD display)? Thank you in advance.

A: The LCD is not HDR.

Q: 4. In looking at the numerous announcement videos and interviews from NAB 2018 I never did hear why there is a screw hole on top of the camera. What is the purpose of this? Why not a cold or hot shoe? Just curious.

A: The hole is designed to be able to mount third party accessories such as a cold shoe, articulating arm for an additional monitor, etc.

Q: 5. Any plans to add a Super16 crop mode?

A: You can do an HD window crop in camera that would work for S16 lenses. To get full sensor 4K a third party would need to create an expander

Q: 6. Does it support AES3 over the mini-XLR like the Ursa Mini Pro does?

A: No, it does not.

Q: 7. WHAT DOES DUAL NATIVE ISO MEAN, AND WHICH ISOS APPLY TO THIS CAMERA?

A: The Pocket Cinema Camera has two native ISO settings, 400 for normal light conditions and 3200 for low light conditions up to 25,600.

Q: 8. Can you use the Metabones Speedbooster XL with this? (the one that worked with the GH4)

A: This is from Metabones:Since the new BMPCC 4K has changed the sensor size from Super16 to M43(17:9), which could be covered under the image circle of standard M43, it is most likely to be able to use the Speedbooster with 0.71x (ULTRA/ Original) or 0.64x (XL/ BMCC ver.), instead of the 0.58x of Speedbooster BMPCC.In generally, we will recommend the standard M43 users(e.g.GH5) to choose - the XL 0.64x if they are using the Full Frame lenses ; - the ULTRA 0.71x if using the APS-C/DX lenses (e.g. Sigma 18-35mm f/1.8)

Q: 9. Most of us who dedicate ourselves to video, we have several EF frame lenses. My question is, there are 2 types of EF lens adapters to M4 / 3. One that everyone uses for the GH5 and another that is designed for the BM Pocket. This last adapter of Metabones is totally compatible with the camera for being 4k or even there is not a perfectly compatible adapter for this camera? And my other query is that a 14mm and a 24mm in how much varies the focal length with the adapter?Thank you

A: Since the camera hasn't been released yet, we don't know if those adapters will work with this camera. The Pocket Cinema Camera 4K has a 1.9 crop factor when compared to a full frame sensor which would make a 14mm lens 26mm and a 25mm lens a 46mm.

Q: 10. Will there be a crop function in 4K/UHD to Super 16 size so we can use our C-Mount lenses??

A: Hmmm my answer was deleted I see...
