The 4 x 5.65" Cavision Enhanced Range ND Filter has a filter factor of 4x that provides a 2-stop exposure reduction and is compatible with filter holders that can accommodate 2mm thick rectangular filters. Its 0.6 density creates a darkening of the entire image, allowing you to photograph with a wider aperture or slower shutter speed than normally required. By increasing your aperture or slowing your exposure time, you can control depth of field and convey movement more easily. Neutral density filters do not affect the coloration of the image and are ideal for pairing with other filters.

This filter is uncoated and is constructed from optical glass for clarity as well as color fidelity. Its enhanced range design is intended to maintain image sharpness when used with lenses that feature a focal length of up to 300mm.

Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Will this filter fit a Leica Summilux 50mm F1.4 and would cause vignetting in the image wide open?

A: The Heliopan 46mm Variable Gray ND Filter will fit the Leica Summilux-M 50mm f/1.4 ASPH. Lens and will not vignette.

Q: 2. Can this filter be stacked with Hasselblad's CP filter of the same size? If so what impact would it have on IQ?

A: The Hasselblad Circular Polarizing (CPL) Filter (72mm) has front threading, so it could accept the Hasselblad ND8 Filter (72mm). However, it may cause some difficulty with regards to focusing and would reduce the exposure.

Q: 3. Would this Heliopan Variable ND filter fit a sony lens?

A: Whether this filter would fit depends on which Sony lens you own.

Q: 4. Mine has developed a haze between the two filters. Is there a way to take it apart and clean it?

A: I have exactly the same issue, haze inside the filter. I live in Thailand and after contacting Heliopan there seems to be no support whatsoever outside USA. It's a hugely expensive filter that basically for me is unusable. I asked for instructions to open it but they gave me none. Many ppl have the same issue with this vnd but there is no solution anywhere if you live outside US. I saved a long time to get this and am hugely disappointed.

Q: 5. What are the meaning of the numbers from 1 to 12 on the filter? Can I use it to adjust an exact ND stop like ND8 or ND16?

A: The 1-12 scale is a half-stop scale that allows you to more precisely set the filter to 0.3 (1-stop) through 1.8 (6 stop) increments, as well as halfway in between any of those stops. It is not exactly related to ND8 or ND16 stops as those would be 0.9 (3-stops) and 1.2 (4-stops), though you could use this 1-12 scale to set those at numbers 6 and 8.

Q: 6. Am I right to assume that a 58mm lens cap would fit over this filter?

A: Yes, technically a 58mm lens cap should fit. But filters like these can be wider. They essentially are made up of two polarizing filters sandwiched together. So they can be a bit wider because of that.

Q: 7. What's the diameter of the lens cap to buy for the Heliopan 46mm variable ND filter? Trying not to remove the filter each time the camera is kept in the bag, thus a lens cap would be useful.

A: The filter can only be used with a push on lens cap. There are none that are specific for that filter. This one is very close but can at times slip off.

Q: 8. Will this fit my Leica Q? I saw someone say that it wouldnt fit the leica 28mm lens.

A: Yes, the Leica Q takes a 49mm filter, so this will fit.

Q: 9. Does this work with the 82mm PM VND II by PolarPro?

A: No, the PolarPro Recon ND16 Filter is designed for Recon VND Matte Box and will not work with an 82mm filter.

Q: 10. What's the actual filter weight (not package shipping weight) in grams. Looking for options for drone lens...?

A: Sorry, we do not have the actual weight on record and we cannot weigh it. I would subtract a few ounces to get at the weight you need to know.
