Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. What's the shelf life for this ink? Does it matter if I have unused cartridges that are a couple years old?

A: I've had cartridges in my printer for about 1 1/2 yrs. and the color is fine. I also refrigerate the extra cartridges and they work fine when called upon.

Q: 2. DOES THIS REPLACE THE #10 CARTRIDGE? WILL IT WORK WITH HP DESIGNJET 800 PS ?

A: Yes, this is the correct cartridge for the HP Designjet 800 PS.

Q: 3. What kind of water resistance does this dye based ink offer?

A: It is considered water-resistant, but it is not recommended to drop water on the image.

Q: 4. How many pages per cartridge of ink does it print? color and black and white

A: I HAVEN'T USED IT YET SO I DON'T KNOW. SORRY.

Q: 5. How many ml of ink are in this cartridge?

A: This is not something the manufacturer has provided, or in many cases willing to give out.

Q: 6. is this a dye based ink?

A: Yes, it is dye based ink.

Q: 7. How much ink is actually in these cartridges? Is there a weight or volume listed? (And how does the amount of ink in the CLI-41 cartridges compare to that in the CLI-251 and CLI-251 XL series of cartridges?)

A: All the CLI-42 are 13 ml. They are specifically for the Canon Pixma Pro 100 -- only, as far as I know. I have not heard of the CLI-251 inks, and the Canon site shows No Results Found with a search for them.

Q: 8. i need the MSDS sheet for this product and also 82 cyan and 82 black can you help.

A: You will need to contact HP for the MSDS sheet. The HP 82 Ink Cartridge (Black, 69 ml) B&H SKU# is HEBIC82, and the HP 82 Ink Cartridge (Cyan 69 ml) B&H SKU# is HECIC82.

Q: 9. On average, how many 8x10, 4x7, 13x19 prints can I expect to get on a PIXMA Pro-100 printer with this value pack. (I know that it depends on many factors, but I like to get an idea of what my cost of ink would be per print)?

A: The variables are way too many for any manufacture to give even an estimate on how many prints you get from the ink cartridges. If an image has a lot of white, it will use much less ink then to make the print verses an image that has deep colors. Also some ink is required to prime the ink lines and print heads.

Q: 10. Is this ink archival?

A: ChromaLife (CLI) inks from Canon are dye based. Canon's pigment based inks start with PGI/PFI. The Pixma Pro-100 used the CLI- dye based ink. Pixma Pro-10 and imagePROGRAF PRO-100 use pigment based inks. Generally, the pigment based inks resist smudging better, and hold up longer under UV light. It's expected that Pigment inks should resist fading for 200 years, where as dye based inks will start to fade in as little as 25 years. Actual results, however, depend on the conditions. Prints which are stored specifically for archival purposes away from light and in controlled conditions will last significantly longer than prints on display particularly in bright areas. Using UV protective glass can enhance the life. Canon claims, ChromaLife (CLI) inks when used in conjunction with specific Canon photo papers, and stored properly in an archive quality album and kept in the dark can last up to 300 years. And when can be displayed indoors in areas out of direct sunlight for between 10-50 years. Other considerations are that Pigment based inks generally provide for a sharper image with darker blacks, however as they have larger particles, introduce more texture to an image. Pigment based inks would be very well suited for high contrast black and white prints, and photo's with dark areas with high detail. Dye based inks having smaller particles so lay flatter on the paper to provide a print that more closely resembles traditional darkroom prints. Images with dye based inks tend to be brighter and more vivid. As you'll note with the printer spec's, when comparing printers that use dye versus pigment based inks, you'll generally be able to achieve higher resolution prints with dye based inks due to the smaller particle size. Canon has improved the quality of its ink's significantly over the years, and the differences noted above between Pigment and Dye based inks is minimal. For most amateur photographers either option will provide good quality lasting results for many years. For my own purposes, I feel the dye based Canon ChromaLife inks are sufficient. I do not aim for long term archival, but do print photos which are stored in an album/portfolio, as well as framed and displayed in normal household and business spaces behind UV protected glass. I personally feel, given that I already archive the digital images, should I ever need to I can always re-print the image in 20-30 years should I need to.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Always better to use OEM ink, but, waiting to use up current ink. Recycled ink is great, but. OEM is safer, and on future plotter image you don't want messed up.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I owned a HPT120 and I always buy original HP Ink, it is reliable, long lasting and the price is OK considering that I use the machine a lot and I use little ink.

Just ink cartridges for my wide HP printer, but I had trouble finding some locally so I turned to B&H as they always seem to have things I need (want).
